No complaints . Deluge is working great (running Arch Linux here) .

I just have a couple of questions :

1) deluged 1.1.x ram usage is doubled compared to 1.0.x , Is there a technical reason behind that ?

2) There is a lot of Deprecation Warnings with python 2.6 . A sample :

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/deluge/ui/common.py:27: DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module instead
  from sha import sha
/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/deluge/ui/tracker_icons.py:58: DeprecationWarning: BaseException.message has been deprecated as of Python 2.6
  log.debug("%s %s %s" % (url, e, e.message))
/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/deluge/ui/gtkui/filtertreeview.py:245: DeprecationWarning: BaseException.message has been deprecated as of Python 2.6
  log.debug(e.message)
The sha warning is pretty common in python apps . I just wanted to report those warnings although I'm quite sure they are not harmful . right ?
English is not my native language .

Hi, At first details, peers, options, tabs at the bottom are extremely sluggish even with as little as 20 connections. After about five minutes it clears up.
Update: Deluge is still very sluggish with 100 connections or more.

I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 server (gutsy) with kernel 2.6.22-16-server.

When I try to install with

Code: Select all

dpkg -i deluge-torrent_1.1.1-1_i386.gutsy.deb
I get the error:

Code: Select all

Preparing to replace deluge-torrent 1.1.1-1 (using deluge-torrent_1.1.1-1_i386.gutsy.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement deluge-torrent ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of deluge-torrent:
 deluge-torrent depends on python-pkg-resources; however:
  Package python-pkg-resources is not installed.
dpkg: error processing deluge-torrent (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 deluge-torrent
When I try to get the package python-pkg-resources using:

Code: Select all

apt-get install python-pkg-resources
I get the error:

Code: Select all

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package python-pkg-resources is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package python-pkg-resources has no installation candidate

Any ideas?

I am really liking the changes that have been coming down in the last few releases, especially the tracker categories. I am running about 391 torrents and have had problems for quite a while where, especially on an un-clean shut-down (I have had hard drive power cable issues), Deluge would come back with several torrents in the "Checking" status but would not update them. Often also several would be paused. I could re-start the paused ones and for the "stuck" ones in the "Checking" state I could often select them all and "resume" them to get them going again as many were "Checking" at 100%. But with the last couple point releases (1.1.0 and 1.1.1) I have a hand-full of torrents that are stuck in "Checking" mode at 0% and they will NOT re-check. A couple times on re-start and the number of "Checking" torrents has changed a bit... was 11, now is 9. Mind you that ALL of these torrents are complete, seeders, done 100% and have no data integrity problems. They are physically fine. But Deluge just sits there... "Checking" at 0%, and NOT BUDGING!

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot or fix this?

Thanks so much!!!!

Found my answer in the 1.1 RC Changelog...

Code: Select all

Deluge 1.1.2 - (In Development)
 Core:
  * Fix issue where torrents get stuck Checking

 GtkUI:
  * Fix #761 use proper theme colours in sidebar
  * Fix saving files/peers tab state when no column is sorted
Thanks Guys!!!! You are doing an AWESOME job in my humble opinion. I am going to play around with the tracker tags and labels to see what tricks I can come up with or suggestions. I already know that I'd like to be able to set bandwidth usage and priorities for, say "Tracker A", "Tracker B", and "Everything Else". I am going to see how select-all in the tracker views works for this. At times, especially during say a freeleech, I want to make sudden changes by tracker. Or say on a new tracker, as I'm coming to a ratio limit, I'd like to tweak them all at once. Once I have time to play with it in actual use I think I might have some more ideas to bounce off you guys. I am SO GRATEFUL that you took my idea for being able to list by tracker!!!!! It is SO HELPFUL!!!!! THAANNNKKK YOOOUU!!! :D

That just needed to be said! And I LOVE that I get the counts (# of torrents) in parenthesis after the tracker and label names. I have not played with Labels much but am thinking they may be useful as I move my room-mates on to using my Deluge instance via the WebUI or (if it's ready, haven't checked) a Windows client. That way we could label them with our names. Other ideas I have for playing with the labels is to mark torrents by category and (hopefully) be able to move them to different completed directories. Like Movies go here, Documentaries go there, Music goes to another spot, eBooks yet another depository. (Sorry to those with pun-humor deficiency). I have not tried it but I hope the Move Torrents feature can work off a label and/or or tracker tag.

Two ideas I can see down the road are, first, ad-hock listings (List all torrents from these three trackers, List all torrents from this tracker that are also in downloading status, List all torrents from tracker A with a "Movie" label, or even cooler, Restrict all views to torrents labeled "Tim", or alternately, List all torrents from Tracker A with labels "Movie" and "Tim"), and second, the same sort of ad-hoc way to create Move Torrent rules. Move torrents labeled "Mike" and "Misc" to directory X. Running 380 seeders and considering multiple users gives you lots of reason to ponder "management" aids. I am curious how many seeders some of the other users out there try to run, and what their experiences or "management" techniques may be in their usage.

I am also curios to see how the daemon does with multiple clients attached simultaneously. One feature I will put in a request for soon, after I have had time to think about it more, is a way to see bandwidth usage per tracker group. That could be real useful once in a while.

And finally, one day, the visual part of my brain will long for a graphing / charting plug-in. But even with my lust for features I am still eternally grateful to you devs!!! I absolutely LOVE Deluge! I LOVE the split into a daemon-ized back-end, and I love the per-tracker lists like you wouldn't believe!

Keep up the good work!

I also had this problem for a while. The solution for me was:

Save the .torrent file in another a directory
Remove the torrent(s) (without removing the data) from deluge.
Restart deluge daemon.
Add torrent file (choosing the directory where the data is)
Deluge starts checking again normally.

Some notes:
- Once I had this checking problem with 30 or so torrents and when I added them all I got stuck after checking the second or third one. My solution was repeat the procedure above but add torrent one by one or in groups of two or three. Spent a while doing this but it worked.

I'd really appreciate if you could also add saving the bottom widget's height. ^^

So what's keeping the Windows version of 1.1.1 from being released?

We just decided we'll wait for the 1.1.2 release since we'll likely push it out this weekend.

COOLNESS!!!

Okay I downloaded the 1.1.0 .msi installer for Windows and put it on my brother's WinXP box and had NO TROUBLES connecting to my Ubuntu Desktop's daemon (running 1.1.1). I will note that 1.1.0 on Windows informed me that 1.1.1 was available, but the Windows version doesn't seem to know that only the Linux 1.1.1 is available. Adding the username:password to the ~/.config/deluge/auth file was as simple as it gets (unless your mouseochistic and like to click thru bunches of dialogs). I am also starting to understand how you guys intend the Lables to work. I like the idea of automatically adding torrents from particular trackers to certain labels... great for genre / content specific trackers. And being able to set up/down rates and move-when-completed directories by label is awesome. I still had notions of using the Label system to do my user management having 3 people attaching to the same daemon. For now, since we co-locate all our media on the same server, music, movies, ebooks, software, et all can be funneled to the right place for central access. I am going to see how it deals with CIFS/SMB (Windows share) mountpoints on the Linux box to put "personal" torrents back onto each of our desktops over a network connection.

Thanks again and I will try to give you all more feedback after toying with it for a while. As of the moment, I am super excited to move my roommates to using the Windows client against my Linux daemon. You ROCK!!!
