Deluge v2.0.3 cannot access daemon of NAS running v1.3.15

Post by kavb333 »

I was setting up a new Linux system and wanted to connect Deluge to my FreeNAS system. After several hours of trying and troubleshooting, I was unable to connect to the NAS, regardless of what parts of Deluge I updated on both ends. I would type in the host name, user name, password, and port perfectly, no errors would pop up or anything, but it just would not connect.

I eventually wound up on the Deluge downloads page and noticed that Linux was the only release that had v2.0.3 available, and that my Windows, FreeNAS, and older Linux laptop all had v1.3.x's, and all those others worked fine. After some more looking around, I found viewtopic.php?t=54438 which had a similar problem, except it was compatibility between two v1.3.x's. So I followed the instructions and downloaded the older version of Deluge on my new Linux setup, and was able to connect to the NAS no problem.

This post is mostly just so hopefully other people who might run into this problem don't waste several hours of their day like I did, maybe this problem will get patched, or at least the team will leave a link up to download v1.3.15 on Linux until the other OS's get v2.0.x's.

Thanks for posting :) it's an unusual situation with not having deluge v2 on windows or mac(there's an unofficial Mac version though), but is though directly specified in official deluge thin-client guide that major-versions need be same for both client and server. It cannot really be patched, as major backend and communication-protocol changes.
