Deluge opens files with wrong program

Videos are set to open with VLC but when opening them from deluge, they open with totem.

This happens in several systems with linux mint and ubuntu, with cinnamon, MATE, XFCE, LXDE, and Gnome.

Can I make deluge open the files with the system applications, or at least manually configure which files open with what?

This is an OS issue, Deluge simply uses xdg-open: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xdg-open
