Cannot see torrent files

Hi,

I've installed version 0.5.5-2 deluge, from the debian repositry, onto my amd64 bit laptop running debian 2.6.22.6. When I right click on a torrent file the application opens but nothing else happens. Clicking on Add and navigating to a directory that has torrent files but they do not show up in the file list.

Also if I click on the port test it says that the port is closed.

The torrent files work fine with bittorrent and bittornado.

I have also tried version 0.5.0-2

Can anyone give me some ideas as to how to proceed.
