Move completed files to another partition / Import torrents

Post by simonbcn »

I believe that Deluge will be a good client of Torrent, but at the moment it needs functionalities that I consider very important:
  • The possibility of moving torrents completed to another partition. I believe that it is of most normal, nowadays, to have several discs and/or partitions. That Deluge cannot handle it, I consider them a great defect.
  • Most of people that install Deluge (as I) used another program of Torrents before. It needs an option (as it has KTorrent) to import those files (complete or not) easily to Deluge.

as to the first issue, that is a libtorrent issue.

as to the second issue (as long as the filenames are the same) it's just a matter of pointing deluge to the proper location. I would imagine that the changing of filenames issue should be resolved in the not too distant future.

I don't know any c++, but as a wild guess I reckon that (1) is caused by the fact that the files are moved compared to copied and deleted. AFAIK moving doesn't work across multiple partitions.

Changed my mind. there's something weird happening with this plugin.
it fails to move downloaded torrents up the tree or even into another folder on the same partition.

Same problem here. Deluge won't move automatically my finished downloads from my "incomplete" folder" to my "complete" one (same partition also). It keeps them on the "incomplete" folder unless I right click on every torrent in progress to specify the right folder. Quite annoying ...

hmm, couple of questions then

Full Allocation or Compact?
What file system (ie ext3, reiserfs, ntfs, etc)?

full allocation
ext3fs
all torrents saved on ~/torrents/ which is actually /dev/sda1 in my case.
i don't use teh auto-move feature, but manual move doesn't work that well.
you have to click around in the target directory dialog to get it to work (eg move back a directory then back to your target).
