Torrent-specific search engine?

Post by Varjak »

One of the reasons I picked Deluge as my BitTorrent client, was that it seemed to have a lot of features and a 'clean' footprint. One of the sources I checked was Wikipedia. I know Wikipedia isn't always reliable but in their comparison chart it indicated that Deluge included a search engine for torrents (as did BitTorrent 6/uTorrent from which it was derived). But I don't see that function in my Windows GUI panel. Is this not a feature of the GUI or not in the Windows version? Thanks.

It used to exist in 0.5.x but no longer does in 1.2.x.

Unfortunately the Wikipedia article on Deluge is outdated in parts.

I don't want to mention other BitTorrent clients if that's out of turn; but a lot of people seem to use uTorrent (not a 'u' but the symbol for 'mu') and that has a torrent search engine. BitTorrent6 (similar to uTorrent) might also be good. I would imagine that such a search engine would be great to have. Googling somethng and including 'torrent' isn't very efficient.

It would be great if Deluge added such a search engine back in.

There are plenty of torrent specific search engines available, there is no need to initiate the search from your client, it can be done directly from the web browser. I haven't used those other clients in a while, but I suspect they just forward you to the search results from one of the torrent search engines.
EDIT: Meant to put an example. Try torrentz.com, it's a torrent meta-search engine.
