0.5.9.3 Available?

Post by trektorrents »

I note the old download directories for 0.5.9.3 have gone. Is this version still available?

Thanks.

What platform?

You should be able to find it here: http://download.deluge-torrent.org/archive/

Is there a particular reason you're after it?

It doesn't have the rasterbar libtorrent issues, and has working, built in WebUI and RSS, which the 1.2.1 doesn't, on Windows.

It's permitted at some trackers.

I still have the .exe, I have all my old .exe for the app, but wanted to be able to refer people to an official source.

You are referring people to a 2 year old unsupported version??! WebUI exists in 1.2.1 and FlexGet plugin provides RSS support.

Yes, I am.

Deluge 1.2.1 doesn't run on many people's windows installs. See Windows Port threads for examples. Members at some trackers are also reporting the issue with it not running, on Vista, XP and Win7. Blame Windows if you like, but the self-contained 0.5.9.3 always installs and runs cleanly.

Also, the Ajax-based webUI, as currently set, on 1.2.1, doesn't work properly. The sort filters, by tracker, status and label, do not work.

So, what I'm doing is referring people to a fully-functional, older version of the application, for those having trouble running the newer, buggier version. The developers may not support it, but as someone who's used the app for years, I still do.

If that's ok with you? ;)

Sorry i still do not agree that pointing other people to an oudated version is a good idea.
Have you considered that with the Deluge team releasing a brand new version with 1.2.x you are undermining their hard work by steering people away from using it.

I have used Deluge-GTK on WinXP without any issue and I don't see that many problems in the Windows forum.

The WebUI is not perfect with the lack of plugin support however it has a superb interface and covers all the features to add, remove, check torrents, and change settings. I have not see any sort issues with WebUI that you mention.

Then we have a philosophical difference tghat will likely never resolve.

I refer each and every person to whom I recommend a client to the latest Deluge Build. If they experience issues running the client (and however few, there are persons experiencing this issue) then and only then, do I refer them to 0.5.9.3. I am one of the more active proponents of this client.

I track at least 3 people having issues running it. Most with the

Code: Select all

CMD WINDOW THEN NO APPLICATION
issue. I also have two reports in the forum I support. That's sufficient, as any supoprt personnel can tell you, the ones who report the issue are never all the people with issues.

I have been unable to get it running properly, beyond simply displaying and updating, despite installing on 2 separate Windows boxes, and accessing it via 5 different browsers across four O/S. (Firefox, IE, Chrome, Safari, Konqueror; OSX, Windows XP, Windows VISTA, Linux (Ubuntu 9.10))

Your input on solving the issue is welcome.

Out of curiosity I went through ever post in the Windows forum and there all I can see are people reporting success after initial trouble. I cannot see any reference to the error you detailed. If I cant see any issues on this forum how can the developers see them?

These were the only isolated issues I could find directly relating to deluge not running on Windows: I even saw your posts being answered by people saying they see no issue with WebUI on windows. To clarify I have both Chrome and Firefox on XP and Ubuntu accessing the web interface perfectly. However there is one minor issue in WebUI that after reading one of your other posts I now understand: The details tab does not always update properly, especially path info. This is a bug and should be reported, if its not already, in Trak database.

Considering the ratio of success to failure based on the feedback in these forums personally I would conclude there is no major problem with Deluge 1.2.1 running on Windows.
