deluge crashes wifi router

Post by rainbow3 »

Deluge has been working fine. However yesterday whenever I started deluge on my laptop then my router would apparently stop working. On the router the light was on saying internet connection but none of my devices could get a wifi signal (internet radio, android phone, desktop, laptop). I tried this several times and as soon as I started deluge I had the problem. The only way to resolve it was to turn off/on the router and everything worked fine again. Of course today it works fine again with Deluge....but I don't understand how what could have made this happen?

I am running windows7 on laptop with virtual box ubuntu 9.1 linux guest and deluge running in ubuntu. Router is netgear WG834GT.

Hard to say.

If it happens again, plug something in to a wired port, see if that works, and go to the Router diagnostics page, look and see if it's broadcasting/receiving wireless.

Maybe the router will have a message or error you can read off on the status page.

You could try reducing the number of connections and half-open connections.

I own a Netgear DG834GT (same model as WG834GT) and there is a custom firmware by DGTeam here that I have been using for years that adds extra functionality as well as being significantly more stable that the original firmware. Certainly worth a try rather than buying a new router.
A few tips: Remember to find and write down all the ADSL connection details including user and password before flashing. Download only the latest flash version that is V1.02.16 - DGTeam Rev. 0848.

I read something on Wikipedia that says that BitTorrent clients can fill a data table in routers to the top, overloading the router and freezing it. I'm not sophisticated enough to know how best to deal with that; but if turning the router off and on (something I do periodically anyway), that might be a simple solution.
