1.2rc3 issues

Post by loki »

These are currently my own Windows Vista problems that I've noticed in rc3... some from previous versions...

Creating a torrent still causes deluge to freeze up at near or above 100% of the creation process and therefore causes deluge to crash. (same)

Initially starting deluge, it doesn't connect to or start the daemon in classic mode, switching to non-classic is currently the only option, and setting the check boxes to start automatically. Even if configured this way, going back to classic mode still doesn't connect. Also, possibly related, occasionally a deluged.exe remains running after closing deluge. (same)

Selecting download or upload speeds from the right-click menu, selecting "Other..." doesn't do anything or the taskbar menu selecting any of the preset values or Other... doesn't work. (noticed this in rc3)

1. I'll look into the torrent creation.

2. I don't understand this. In Classic mode the daemon will not start and should not start -- this is how it works now.

3. This has been fixed in svn and will be in the next release.

So the daemon is basically only for the webui at this point, correct? If so then it means I have to set non-classic mode in order to be able to start or access the webui?
Shouldn't it still start with classic mode enabled if the webui is enabled?
Either I'm still missing something, or something still isn't working correctly the way I understand it between the client and the webui... somehow with classic mode enabled it does allow me to connect to webui but apparently I can only add new torrents and view current progress, that's it. It doesn't let me pause torrents, remove or remove and with data, or changing settings, and attempting to connect to the connection manager, it simply says offline and it gives an option to stop daemon or connect, neither one has a positive outcome... one or the other causes it to lose connection with webui and the gtkui becomes unresponsive to buttons/menus, even quit does nothing, end process is the only solution that works for this problem. Then I have to restart and disable classic mode, then quit again, and finally restart and I'm back to everything working the way I believe it should.

Yeap. Still, IE7/8 doesn't work at all with web-ui on RC3. It was working fine with RC2 (some js errors, but I could live with it). Shouldn't Deluge support IE browsers (since it is a multi-platform product?)?
I can suggest using jQuery for the web interface. It is cross-browser and works perfectly. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it supports standards compliant browsers and you should be able to get a standards compliant browser for your platform.

Nope.

Classic mode simply creates the core object within the same program, instead of launching a separate process like in previous versions. Using non-classic mode is great for when you want to run a daemon without having it integrated into a gui. For instance, you could be running a daemon on one computer and connect, with the gtkui, to the remote daemon. You would have to do this in non-Classic mode.

There is a WebUI plugin for the gtkui interface now. It will basically use the running Core object, if it's a daemon process or not. But, the webui will be in the gtkui's program memory, so if you exit the gktui, the webui will exit too. This may not be desirable, so you would want to run a separate daemon process and a separate webui process (and perhaps a separate gtkui process [ and perhaps this is on remote machine :)]).

Hope that wasn't too confusing.

I've noticed that the upload/download limits are not obeyed when the "Rate limit overhead" tickbox is checked. This is on Ubuntu Jaunty 1.2 RC3 - 5.

edit:
daemon running on server and GTK UI connecting to it from remote computer.

Well, as johnnyg said, ExtJs claims to be compatible to IE6+. Looks like the issue is in the file deluge-yc.js (running some debuggers).

Besides, accordingly to the IE8 site, "...The browser [IE8] is also more compliant: Microsoft says it passes all of the 7201 tests it came up with and submitted to W3C, the body that sets Web standards." (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/intern ... sting.aspx). I also watched a MSDN video where Scott Gu has shown these same tests, on which IE8 claims to be W3C-compliant.

So, to use Deluge WebUI I'll be forced to use a "more compliant" browser (whatever it means), that's it? I really like to tell everyone that they don't need to install extra software to run Deluge. It's simple, it's fast. It just work. Well, use to...
