Better error message for torrent storage error

Post by josephj »

I just replaced the battery in my UPS which my notebook and usb drive (where all my torrents are) are attached to.
When I did this, my usb drive lost power and then got power back (while I was still looking at the UPS). Anyway, that caused it to become unmounted without my noticing what had happened.

I came back to my notebook and looked at the deluge screen and saw that all the torrents had stopped and deluge was checking them, but essentially doing nothing. Then, it started a torrent up and it went to "Error" and the status display had some message in it that was unreadable to the unwashed (me). So, I started to panic, thinking that all my partial files (100's of MB's and many hours) had been trashed. (Limewire does this frequently when things lock up, etc.) I stopped and restarted deluge several times. I was thinking about trying to delete some of the torrents and starting them from scratch.

I had no idea what was wrong until I finally went into konqueror and saw that the directories weren't there.
I then remounted the usb drive and everything went back to normal. deluge picked up where it had left off once I tweaked the order of the queue a little.

The point of all this is that if deluge had told me something like "Hey, everything was fine a minute ago, but now I can't find the files I was writing to." "What are you doing, Dave?", then my panic might have been avoided or at least lessened significantly. Even a humble "File not found" would have been a big step in the right direction.

Anything you can do to make this more obvious would really help.

Thanks.
Joe
