apt-get install deluge

Post by HVjoel »

Hi,

I just installed debian 4 on a computer. Now I'm trying to install deluge at it by doing:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install deluge
It returns: E: Couldn't find package deluge

The same goes for installing unrar.

This is my /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://ftp.surfnet.nl/os/Linux/distr/debian/ etch main
deb-src http://ftp.surfnet.nl/os/Linux/distr/debian/ etch main

deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main

I already tried sudo apt-get update

Anyone knows what to do?

Thank you :)

Hi

Try the following:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install deluge-torrent
Also the following works for me for unrar (on ubunty hardy) so I'm guessing it maybe isnt in the repos you're using?

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install unrar

The unrar thing works now by adding non-free and contrib to the sources.list,

but still no deluge-torrent. Could you copy your sources.list? (A)

you can get the latest versions of deluge from the download page or at http://download.deluge-torrent.org (it has previous versions as well).
but as for the repo version, does

Code: Select all

aptitude show deluge-torrent
say anything?

Strange because deluge-torrent is listed in main pool it is 0.5.9.3 though.

Yesterday I tried apt-get install deluge, in stead of apt-get install deluge-torrent.

apt-get install deluge-torrent does give an error though:
Package deluge-torrent is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package deluge-torrent has no installation candidate
This error isn't very important to me, because I would like to install the deluge daemon.

I tried dpkg -i package name. That tells me that I miss some dependencies, which I don't know how to install.

if you want the daemon, then you want the latest version (1.0.2) seeing the repo version (0.5.8.9 if I'm not mistaken) doesn't have it.
the simplest way to install the .deb is to double click it (this way will download and install any dependencies).
However if you're doing this on a server which doesn't have X or just want to do it via terminal then

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libboost-date-time1.34.1 libboost-filesystem1.34.1 libboost-iostreams1.34.1 libboost-python1.34.1 libboost-thread1.34.1 librsvg2-common python-dbus python-glade2 python-notify python-pyopenssl python-setuptools python-xdg
should resolve all the dependencies.

hi, this is exactly what i was looking for, im trying to run deluge on debian lamp 4.0 with fluxbox(on server) i have access both xterm and putty as terminal but when i try to execute the command you have mentioned...

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libboost-date-time1.34.1 libboost-filesystem1.34.1 libboost-iostreams1.34.1 libboost-python1.34.1 libboost-thread1.34.1 librsvg2-common python-dbus python-glade2 python-notify python-pyopenssl python-setuptools python-xdg
I'm getting, this response...
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependeny tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package libboost-date-time1.34.1
what i think something outdated or what, cuz the post almost 1.5 years old...
Anyways any help much appreciated, thanks in advance : )

You mentioned you had fluxbox installed on your server?
You should be able to install deluge via X.

Anyway, you're probably after libboost-1.35 now.
Otherwise, you can see what versions of libboost are available by running:

Code: Select all

aptitude search libboost
I should also mention that list of dependencies can be found here: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/Installing/Source
(I know, for instance, that you don't need python-dbus anymore).
