Feature request: Deluge *client* only

Post by Aqualung »

I can't really tell whether this has been posted before, so let me just come out and say it:

I'd be interested in a Deluge client only, as opposed to a full blown Deluge program that includes a daemon/server. Ideally this should be self-contained and portable--a single executable file would be best (hopefully a Windows .exe file :) ). Would that be an impossible task?

I am asking for this because, unfortunately, my headless Deluge server/daemon doesn't have enough resources to drive a web server (as in Deluge's WebUI), that's why I cannot use the WebUI. WebUI would, indeed, be ideal for what I have in mind. Too bad I can't use it.

You have to look here :
http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/ThinClient
you can add your daemon on a server and poll it with a gtkui.
I think deluged can run perfecly on a linux server with 256mo. What server do you have that has less resources ?

Thanks for the reply, but I guess all this double talk about clients/servers has real potential to create misunderstandings. I have no problem running the Deluge daemon on my server (machine A). My server (machine A), on the other hand, cannot run the Deluge WebUI, so as things stand right now the only way to access the Deluge server is via gtkUI, as you say, meaning install the full Deluge on a "client" computer (machine B), and access the Deluge daemon on the server (machine A). What bothers me is this "install the full Deluge" bit. I don't need the Deluge daemon on machine B. I will never use the deluged daemon on machine B. I just wasnt the gtkUI(?) part/module/bit of Deluge so I can access the daemon on machine A, and I was hoping this could be delivered as a standalone executable file (hopefully an .exe file :) )--meaning no installation required.

Prey tell, does this sound like something that could be achieved? It looks to me that, as of now, the daemon and the gtkUI parts of Deluge are quite separate, though I don't know the extent to which they could be installed and used independently.

Have a look at this :
http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtop ... f=8&t=2695
you could find what you are looking for (a no install deluge version for which you may be able to remove the daemon).

Thanks, I know that topic, though it doesn't look to me to be what I need. That looks to be a simple portable Deluge--that is, the whole shebang, including the kitchen sink. Not to mention that it hasn't seen any activity since ... what?... March 08? Sure looks like abandonware to me.

there's a windows version in development that compromises of only 3 executables: one for deluge, one for deluged and one for deluge web ui.

That's more along the lines of what I wanted to hear, thanks. I take it, then, that the "deluge" bit above stands for the "gtkUI" bit I'm after, right?
Can you point me to the developer in charge? Any links? ...Just so I can stay abreast of new developments :)
