Deluge 0.5.8.1 CPU Usage

Post by Guru »

Im running Ubuntu Gutsy 64-bit version and the latest Deluge client. I've noticed that every 30-seconds to a minute (it varies), the CPU usage on deluge will spike at 100% for about 10 seconds, at which point the GUI becomes unresponsive, and then the cpu usage will return to normal.

At first, I thought perhaps the Speed Limiter plugin was the cause, as in the older versions I had problems w/CPU usage and the speed limiter plugin; however, I have disabled the plugin and experience the same intermittent 100% cpu spikes. The only thing I can think of is, it may have something to do with running for a long while. I've had deluge running (while seeding 10 torrents) for the past 4 days. After shutting down deluge and restarting, the intermittent cpu spikes have gone away.

how did you install deluge? source? package from our site? package from another site(ie getdeb)? are you using full or compact allocation? which other plugins do you have enabled? could you upgrade and see if this still happens in 0.5.8.2?

Installed from your site (64bit Gutsy package) and I deleted deluge config when upgrading to 0.5.8.1. I'm using full allocation, and I have the following other plugins enabled: (Desired Ratio, Move Torrent, Torrent Creator, Torrent Files, Torrent Notification, Torrent Peers, and Torrent Search). As I said above, it appears to be related to deluge running for a long time, because it did not occur when I first started deluge, and only became noticeable after 3-4 days w/o restarting deluge.

Just noticed you released a new version! Will download and give it a try and let you know, as I tend to leave deluge running on my server 24/7. Thanks for the new release! Keep up the great work!

I have the same kind of problems, with 0.5.8.2, too. Debian Sid here. I'm thinking of going back to 0.5.8.0, or better, back to azureus.

I believed that I had untill now all the problems you can get: corrupted state file, losing all your torrents (when you have more than 40 torrents seeded, with a manually modified tracker, each one of them, you really feel the pain of it), settings that just don't want to be saved (like not showing the availability, which showed up in the main window at each restart), settings that just don't work ok (like having a speed limiter for your downloads that won't eat up your cpu) or buttons of upload in the web console that are not working. Hack, at one time I corrupted the state file and lost all my downloads only for adding a torrent with some non-ascii characters in name.

Now I also have this: can't download anything because from time to time the CPU goes sky high, and downloading stops. Deluge is for sure in my top 5 apps that makes your life shorter.
