you can actually get a patch that removes the half-open tcp connections restriction on windows.
as for linux (or a patched windows), what would you recommend for the number of half-open connections?

also, has any progress been done on the setting wizard yet?
I believe this would probably fix the majority of slow downloading due to not properly configured settings.
I suggest unlimited for linux since it isn't crippled.

The wizard has been discussed, but it does require a little more thought then the previous one due the client/server nature of 1.0.0. We might see it in 1.2..

Hi. I'm not having this problem (actually deluges maxes out my 1.xMBps wireless link my lappy is able to establish with my router due to to the crappy b43 driver).
But a lot of people seem to be having this problem. In this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=925646, some of us are trying to corner out the problem over at ubuntu forums. Maybe the info over there will help the developers figure out what is going on. However, this problem seems to be a hit-or-miss one.
I'm running Deluge 1.0.0 On hardy, and it works just fine.

edit: I just got an idea from another thread here. Maybe something changed in the 1.x branch that makes it more vulnerable to deep packet inspection by lousy ISP's? We know this matter has been getting worse in the few last months. The thread I mention is here http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtop ... =7&t=10345

Let's try this theory out; let's all say wheter it works or not, and what country/ISP we use.
Mine DOES work and I'm using Jazztel in Spain (known to be torrent friendly)

I can rule that out, in my case at least. My ISP (be-there, UK) does not perform any DPI, and in any other client (ive tested ktorrent, transmission, utorrent (under wine), deluge 5.9 and azureus) my connection is maxed out downloading well seeded torrents from private trackers. In deluge 1.0 i cannot seem to get an individual torrent much past 60 or 70 kiB/s. The only exception is when its something like the latest ep of heroes from scenetorrents which has something like 1000 seeds and 20 leechers. Torrents whch I would expect nice speeds on (and indeed I get nice speeds on in other clients) such as those with a very healthy seed:peer ratio and on private trackers seem to be suffering.

max connections: 200
max upload slots: 4
max connections per second: 20

if you are on windows xp:
max half open connections: 8

if you are on windows vista:
max half open connections: 4

Set your max upload speed to 80% of your upstream max.
Seems to have done the job, thanks. The first 3 settings seem to need to be set in combination for the speed to increase (although i upped the number of connection to 300 and dropped max per second to 10 which seemed to give best results for me)

Great. These are the new default settings in 1.0.1.

Unfortunately the newer versions (1.0.1/1.0.2) don't solve this problem for me. I had already limited the max connections per second setting (as well as max half-open connections). I still can't get over 300 KB/s with Deluge 1.x on perfectly-seeded torrents, while any other torrent client gives me more than 1000 KB/s. It's very strange, deluge successfully connects to as many peers as any other client, but it seems like it intentionally limits the download speeds from them (despite any global or per-torrent download speed limitations being turned off, only upload is limited).

I'd be happy to help debug this issue, and I hope the developers will finally admit it is a real bug.

Mindzai, how did you figure out which settings were best for you? Was it hit or miss? Or is there a way to calculate this based on one's bandwidth or something else? Thanks.

I tried the settings andar posted above on my Debian Testing system and so far so good. I seem to be able to max out my bandwidth now.

Although I don't see any setting in the preferences window for "max connections per second." I take it this option has been removed from Deluge and it's just set to a default of 20?

Hmmm. And here (assuming you're talking about connection attempts), me, running on 1.0, I have that option set to 10 and perfectly satisfied...

Whatever works, i guess.
