Connection Issues on the new Versions

Post by blacklotus »

Hello, i have been using deluge as my torrent client for a couple of months now. I was an avid utorrent user and i only stopped because utorrent couldn't bypass the traffic shaping applied by my isp. I searched the web for something to fix this and i came across with Deluge. It worked really well and the program was awesome.

Then after a couple of weeks Deluge started crashing. It gave an error, but it still worked in the background, so it didn't bother me much, since the downloading didn't stop. (0.5.9.2/3). When the newer versions started coming out, i updated, to see if the problem would get fixed.
I can't pinpoint the exact version when my new problem started, but i can say it happens on the last 3 ones: basically, now, the torrents don't work. I load them, and nothing happens. Even the peers and seeds are loaded, but still, no downloading.

Any ideas on why this happens? Sorry if it's obvious, but i'm not really an expert on torrents and Deluge.

Troubleshooting i did: unninstall, install, have exact same settings (that i know of) on the setup (port, speeds, etc.).

Thanks for your help.

Are the torrents on a private tracker? The private tracker may be blocking your client by being RC, beta software. Try something on an open tracker to see if that makes any difference.

My general rule of thumb are simple at situations like this. Revert back to whichever last or previous versions before the current RCs that works for you. I got up to RC7 so far and although that had somewhat reduced the apparent interface/operation lags and with no real dramatic crashes to speak of, it's still is slow at connecting to trackers. But to be really fair, it's called a "release candidate" for definite reasons. Right now I'm back on 0.5.9.3 and I run that with Proxomitron to proxy the tracker. Doing good plus it looks better paired with gtk+ for Win themes. Also keep in mind about the issues you've mentioned, it could also simply be attributed to ISP snafus?

Well, i tried downloading something from an open tracker (mininova) and it worked and at good speeds as well.
Then i added another mininova, and it worked as well. I added another one,but from a private tracker (filelist) and... it's "kinda" working, but really weird.
Check the seeds/peers:

Bottom two are private, the other two are open. One already over and fast the other one going ok. (at an higher speed atm.)

It's weird.

Uhhh maybe loki's right on the money there.. :? Before we go any further, I trust that you're aware about this particular thingy? Especially on the part where it states; "A private tracker is a tracker which restricts who can use it, often by requiring registration of a user account." Unless of course if you're properly regist'ed with said torrents' trackers?

It's a good idea to blur out what files you are actually downloading... keep that in mind for future reference.

Just before i went to bed last night, the speeds were soaring on Deluge, on all torrents. The private trackers ones were going at total of 1,3 Mbps and the open tracker one was at 100 kbps.
Which made even more confuse... maybe this version of deluge just takes more time starting the download if the tracker is private? No idea.

Maybe... but if you still didn't see any local seeds you could have just been getting it from the peers which is entirely possible though if the peers happen to have 100% of the file collectively.
