I've just noticed that deluge is taking 100% of my CPU when i throttle the download speed.
After putting download speed back to -1 the problem disappears. Turning it back up to for example 60 returns the problem.
Using the latest deluge (0.5.6.2) on Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64
100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
Re: 100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
I just noticed the same behavior (I didn't really notice until I ran top, because I have a quad core cpu).
I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) AMD64 with Deluge 0.5.6.2 with the speed limiter plugin.
With the speed limiter plugin enabled I get 100% cpu usage on one core. With the plugin disabled, deluge only uses about 4% cpu. It doesnt matter if the download/upload speed is limited or set to unlimited. As long as the plugin is enabled, the cpu usage is pegged at 100%

Re: 100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
i'll do some tests...but i honestly havent seen this before.
Re: 100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
same here, and the speed limter doesn't work, I set the dl to 30kbps, and it goes at ~80 with cpu 100%
Re: 100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
Same here. If you need more information, I'm willing to help solve the bug
Re: 100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
I'm having the same problem here running Debian Lenny + Deluge 0.5.7.1-1
Re: 100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
I'm getting the same thing here.
Just downloaded to try out this program. Version 0.5.8.7
Running on Ubuntu 7.10 on a notebook core2duo T5450.
System monitor shows Deluge pegging one core fully, or 50% system total for periods of up to a minute every 30 secs or so. I'm running gkrellm so I can see it jump up and down every so often.
This causes my system temperature to go up to 68C sometimes. I don't know what it's doing a no outward sign of activity. Currently download limit set but haven't tried it without. Speed Limit plugin is not enabled. I'm talking about setting overall limit from tray icon menu.
If you need additional help to track this down I'm here.
Any ideas to fix I'd like to know as otherwise it seems like one issue marring an otherwise fabulous program.
This is the first I've seen on Linux that approaches uTorrent functionality on Windows so I really want to use it.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: 100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
I notice the same issue on both Ubuntu Gutsy and Debian Lenny, and i've noticed it with at least all 0.5.8.* builds if not with earlier builds as well.

Re: 100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
Hi, Is this bug resolved ? Here contrary to the speed that others have set, i just limited my number of connections to 1000, and it completely hogs cpu.. I am not able to change the preferences back since the window completely freezes. Is there anyway to reset the preferences from command line ? Deluge was the only torrent client that was working in decent speed by default... Please help
I am running Deluge (not sure of the version but i am quite sure its the latest from ubuntu repos) on Ubuntu 8.10 and my processor is Intel Core 2 Duo. Its pretty odd when u have 100% cpu on such a processor with only one application running

Re: 100% cpu usage if download speed is limited
Hi, I have the same problem - high usage of cpu when deluge is running. I managed to reduce the cpu load with this:
I run the deluged daemon separately (on my Arch Linux machine, I added it to the DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf), so it starts automatically.
I set up the Deluge this way:
in Preferences Dialog > Interface, I disdabled the Classic mode. Then after first start of Deluge, he askes me for the daemon to connect, so I choose mine and that's all. I run the Deluge frontend only when I need to manage the torrents.
It's little bit better with the cpu usage now.
