Poor upload speeds

Post by pcarcade »

I'm getting poor upload speeds using deluge 2.1.1 with popular torrents, my download speeds are exactly where I would expect them to be at around 100MB/s I have symmetric 1000/1000 MBPS internet, and my uploads rarely go over 1mb, my bandwidth settings are currently:

Max Connections : 2500
Maximum Upload slots : 50
Max download speed: -1
Max upload speed: -1
Maximum half open connections: 50
Maximum connections per second: 50
Ignore limits on local network is ticked
Rate limit IP overhead is unticked
Per torrents are all set to -1
I am using the ltConfig plugin with the default "High Performance Seed" setting with the exception of utp which is turned odd for both incoming and outgoing connections

For information I'm running an EERO 6+ router on v7.6.2

Can anyone help me improve my uploads speeds? I previously set everything to -1, but it didn't seem to make any difference

Your upload speed is more dependent on the person downloading from you, not necessarily the "most" you can upload.

You can always attempt to tweak your settings using libtorrent settings in the ltConfig plugin, but I think youre misunderstood that just because someone is downloading from you it should max out your connection and that's just not the case. They are likely downloading from multiple people, and your upload is unlikely to ever be maxed out by a couple of people downloading from you if there are multiple other seeders.

I absolutely understand that, but no one ever downloading at anything over 1 Mb seems odd when I have plenty of bandwidth to spare, I'd happily let 100 people download at 1mb.

As it currently stands, only 1 file will ever get mb speeds, the other 3 or 4 with any traffic at all usually are around double digit kb/s which seems odd

I currently have at least 40 active torrents in Deluge, and only 1 of them is above 600KB/s - the rest are far lower. That's just how it is.

Unless you are in the initial swarm, when everyone is downloading it and pieces are scarce, you shouldn't be expecting huge numbers on anything that is seeded reasonably well.

I'd recommend you look at when you're downloading something off someone in the "peers" tab - and you're getting 100MB/s....you will likely only have a couple of people you are getting those type of speeds from.

The same applies to anyone downloading off you, but in reverse.

You can always tweak your libtorrent settings, I have a tuning thread I just posted that explains the settings. But it's just a fact of torrenting and the protocol itself. Not everyone is going to upload as fast as they can, there are preferential treatment to certain peers, peering, and the bottleneck of the person downloading.

It's not as simple as "I can upload to you this fast, so download this fast" - I wish it was. My stats would be insane.

Just seed, and seed long. You'll get there.
