Slow downloads on W11 compared to Linux Mint

I've been using Mint with Deluge and have had to move to W11 on Virtualbox.

Internet download speed is the same on both machines, but downlods on the W11 VM are much slower than on Mint.

I tested with the torrent for Mint 23.3 (same torrent on both machines). W11 VM got 5-5.5Mbps at the point the download reached 20% while the Mint machine got 7.5-8Mbps at the same point.

I don't have much experience with VMs but I'm running Tiny11 OS.

Is this difference to be expected?

What version of libtorrent are you using on each? 2.x libtorrent acts differently and windows handles its memory usage far less efficiently than linux would.

I personally use libtorrent 1.2.x wherever I can.

Looks like on W11 it is 1.2.15.0 (Deluge 2.1.1).
Mint is on 1.1.13.0 (Deluge 2.0.3).

I am also noticing the VM running pretty slow. The host PC is pretty high spect (Spectre 14 Intel I7 ultra, 32GB RAM) but the VM is way slower than the host. I'm new to VMs so still working that through. Think that could be the cause?

vms are usually slower than a host OS, and it could be using a virtual network card that is set to being a slower speed, less amount of ram than the host, etc
