QNAP TS-453 + Deluge + Proxy

Post by mscaff »

Hi all!

New to Deluge - have recently purchased a QNAP TS-453 PRO and have installed Deluge 1.3.12 on it with QNAPware.
I currently have a VPN/Proxy service with Private Internet Access and I am having issues getting Deluge to route through the proxy :/

Settings I have are as follows:

Type: Socks5 with Auth
Host: proxy-nl.privateinternetaccess.com
Port: 1080
Username: username
Password: password

I have these details above set on each of the connection types - however I cannot seem to get Deluge to route through the proxy and instead continues to show my real IP as per http://ipleak.net AND torguard. Username and Password was also generated through the PIA website under my client control panel.
-------------
Any help would be much appreciated! Would really love to get Deluge up and running properly on my QNAP.
p.s If Deluge will not route through a proxy, any chance anyone has another solution to hide my real IP?

Thanks guys!
Matt

My understanding is that as long as you enter your proxy server settings in each of the options in Deluge in the Proxy section, it will not download anything unless connected to the proxy server. I have no way of confirming this because it seems when I'm connected to my proxy server, the checkmyip torrent file that reveals what your IP address is doesn't work for me. However, I can confirm that when I remove all the proxy server settings, the checkmyip torrent file does work and shows my regular IP address.

Here's the torrent file you can use to check if it you get a valid IP address when connected through your proxy server:

http://torguard.net/checkmytorrentipaddress.php

Let me know if you make any progress on this as I have yet to find a reliable way to confirm if in fact my proxy server settings are working and Deluge is downloading through the proxy server.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply man - I can definitely see that Deluge is leaking real IP information when all proxy settings are correct.
Is it possible the deluge client is not compatible with the PIA proxy???

Is there any other settings I need to set for the QNAP to make this work? Would really love a working torrent proxy implementation for my QNAP.

Cheers

This post of yours is pretty alarming. One of the things that sold me on using Deluge is that it won't start any downloading/transfers when not connected to the Proxy Server. I wish there was a way to confirm this but we aren't really getting any responses from people here on the forums. Hmmm...

I've only been using Deluge for 2 weeks but thinking I may hold off on any further transfers until we get more details on this. Please keep me posted if you hear anything or find a solution.

Curious, how did you find out your IP information is leaking?

Btw, if you're using iPleak.net to see if you're leaking your IP, that won't be accurate as your internet connection is only using the proxy server for Deluge activity, not for all other internet traffic. This would differ if you were using a VPN where once connected to the VPN server, your entire internet connection and traffic would route through the VPN server.

I understand how a proxy differs from a VPN, however my IP address should not be leaking, all interactions should take place through the proxy server.

I have a feeling that because I'm using a QNAP the proxy implementation side of things is poor.

Can anyone else comment on this please? I'm going to test the Windows client today with the same settings to see if it's something with the QNAP.

I need to know though, how are you testing to see if your IP has leaked? Did you receive a notice from your IP provider? I have no way of testing my own proxy server settings in Deluge to see if my IP is leaking or not. All I know is that when I try the checkmyip torrent trick to check the IP, it doesn't work. I tried using this little trick:

http://torguard.net/checkmytorrentipaddress.php

What I've noticed is that when using the proxy server settings in Deluge, the trick above in this torrent file gives me an error and won't report an IP address. However, if I blank out the proxy server settings, it immediately shows me my usual IP address.

I would love to find a way to really test this.

Seems like the issue lies in the proxy support with the QNAP implementation of Deluge - all settings etc worked perfectly within the Windows Deluge client, however not the QNAP does anyone know if there is a fix/workaround for this?

Settings were tested within Deluge with proxy setup on all connection - ipleak.net shows proxy IP through Windows client only.

Pretty certain the QNAP implementation is libtorrent based, any way to triple check that?
