I don't use any torrent clients other than Deluge, so I can't compare, but I have often wondered why nearly all downloaders seem to have dialup internet or something. I have a 100MB/s fiber line myself, so I'd expected to be one of the most popular seeders. Not so. Hardly anyone connects at all (or connects but doesn't start downloading actually), and those that do often download at single-digit Kb rates.

If this is a bug (instead of one of the bazillions of variables being set worng), that's a serious issue. I like Deluge, so I want it to be good/become better, but between this and the 'downloaders connect but don't start, then disconnect' issue, I'm thinking I may have to look around for a better torrent client :(

I have a dedicated server 1gbps where I installed deluge 1.3.7. After you upgrade to libtorrent rasterbar 0.16.17 my upload speed has become ridiculous (you can clearly see from the screenshot).
Before updating libtorrent (always with Deluge 1.3.7) my upload speed was similar to other seed, but now it sucks.
I tried to format the server (Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS) and reinstall everything from scratch, but the situation does not change.

Hmm, maybe my slow upload speed is not related then, as I've had that since, I dunno, at least 0.16.13, probably much longer.

It's likely settings in libtorrent 0.16 need tweaking, see the ltconfig plugin.

Now I check with itconfig.

In v1.0.2 changelog is reported:
- fixed uTP upload performance issue
This thing could be the problem reported above?

Seeing the same issue with seeding/uploading. Has anyone tried compiling 1.0.2 to see if it works with 1.3.7?

Well, I gave Transmission (2.82/2.84) a try for a few days, and the difference is amazing.

No connect-disconnect problem, most clients start downloading after connecting, and even if they don't the connection stays for several minutes at least, not <20s.

And download speeds are also a lot higher. Not the tens of MB/s it could be, but I saw speeds measured in MB/s a few times. In any case, in just a few days Transmission reached share ratios it had taken Deluge weeks to reach before.

Granted, this was only a few days, and a mere three torrents of which two aren't very popular, but it's promising enough that I'll stick with it a while longer. I don't really like Transmission's interface though. Please make Deluge work great again soon.

I have already mentioned this is due to using libtorrent 0.16 (or later), there is nothing that is going to be 'fixed' in Deluge. It will be up to you to figure out why it is slower so you need to test different lt settings from lt config such as turning off uTP or changing other relevant settings. You can use the libtorrent tuning page for reference (problem with site means I have linked to archive version)

Baah. That's just way too much to wade through. Is there a set of reasonable defaults for a high bandwidth connection? Most advice you find on torrent clients' websites is for low bandwidth connections.
