Deluge using free VPNBook

Post by trebor7-1 »

Hi I would like to try using a VPN to download my torrents. I have found VPNBook, a free VPN service (?) and set up a VPN with pptp thats works well with my browser. I'm using Linux Mint 13.
However with the VPN on the torrents in Deluge stop. I have gone to proxy setup and put in user name and password from VPNBook site, the same as the VPN setup that works for VPN on the box, but not to sure which of the 5 choices to use or the port number to use.
Has anyone tried to use VPNBook with Deluge. Did you get it working ?

Thanks for any help with this. If it works might even go to a paid for service...

I am brand new to this app, so forgive me if I say something thats totally wrong.

I have had a similar issue with PIA (paid vpn service running openvpn or pptp).

The problem seems to be binding to the port no. allocated by your vpn service. You don't get to pick your port no. on the vpn server and you need a vpn provider who provides port forwarding to your ip/port no.

That being said with PIA, you still have to know your port number and update it in Deluge ... but they have said your port number needs to be checked every hour ... which is a royal pain.

So unless someone has some better ideas on using vpn over torrents I am not much help

Thanks
