download stops within 10 seconds!?!

Post by philayre »

This has been driving me mad for some days now.

I'm setting up an ubuntu 12.04 server with the deluge deamon installed. I connet to this deamon from other PCs in my household to add torrents, which are downloaded to a file server.

the server and Deluge deamon are setup to connect to a VPN, I'm using deluge v1.3.6 on xubuntu 12.04.

my problem is: on adding a magnet link to the deamon my download starts, within a few seconds the download speed is ~200kBps, however after a few more seconds the download rate drops slowly to 0. the whole process takes around 10 seconds and the download will progress no further, unless I restart the deamon, in which case the whole process starts again. At the moment I'm connected to 137 DHT nodes, 200 peers but have 'no incoming connections'.

I cannot see any problems with my routing table / VPN connection, if I disconnect from the VPN the same problem occurs. And the fact it starts downloading OK initially leads me to think its a problem with deluge, not my network

Please let my know if there's any other information I can provide, this is driving me NUTS.

ok, some more information:

the same thing happens when I add a new torrent, so I can run deluge, it will start to download then stop, if I add a new torrent this one will begin to download then again stop also (the original torrent will remain at 0kbps throught out this).

any ideas of things I can look into to try and resolve this?

Have you checked the logs for errors?

Thanks, I have only got round to setting up the log files now, and i see the following in /var/log/deluge/web:

[WARNING ] 21:36:40 config:361 Unable to open config file /home/deluge/.config/deluge/hostlist.conf.1.2: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/deluge/.config/deluge/hostlist.conf.1.2'

could this be the source of my problems? any idea how to sort it out?

Really appreciate any help.
Cheers

OK I have reinstalled my OS from scratch with Deluge 1.3.6 several times and still have the same problem of torrents starting to download then stopping after 5 - 10 seconds.

Any ideas at all?

I can connect to the internet OK from the computer running the deluge daemon, download speed tests give me download speeds in the region of 10Mbps. I am using a VPN connection.

I have attached two screen shots, one showing the inital download, another showing what I see after a few seconds

Likely a permission issue with the download path.

unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the problem, deluge can save the downloaded file ok, I can see it in my file system and can get the download to progress if I continually restart the daemon (see below)

I am saving my files to a server mounted to the system using cifs, there is still nothing mentioned in the logs.

anything else I can look at?

Apologies, it was a permissions issue, chmod 777 and the problem went away. I'll get my head round permissions one day!

I've got the exact same situation. What did you chmod exactly?

the file directory where I was saving the torrents, in my case the whole mounted file system
