Backend service freezing?

Post by wedders »

Hey guys,

I've been using Deluge as a secondary client (for sites that banned uTorrent) for a couple of years, and as my only client for probably close to a year (because uTorrent got adverts, which is hilarious.) I've only started experiencing this issue fairly recently and it's annoying as hell. It was bad a few weeks ago - as it is again now - but between these periods Deluge worked as expected.

Basically everything just stops. The UI is still working, responsive etc, I can open and play with settings etc, but all the down/up speed columns freeze and no progress is made, as if libtorrent or whatever actually does the downloading behind the UI is locking up. If I go to File > Quit, then the UI flags as "Not responding" and I have to end it via Task Manager, but the backend doesn't unfreeze, so I have to reboot before I can use Deluge again. I've literally just had to reboot about 6 times to finish a download because it would transfer about 8% and then lock up (having done the first ~50% of the file without issue).

Is this related to the known GTK-on-Windows issues I've read about in other posts? What are my options for resolving this? And is it going to continue to happen after a period of time/amount of use?

Thanks :)

Latest, although it started with 1.3.5 and I only saw there was a new version when I came to ask about it. I haven't tried un- and re-installing mainly because I've got a load of half-done large torrents in there that I now can't finish, and I'd have to go find the torrent files again to resume them afterwards (or note down all the hashes or something, both are kinda time consuming), but do you think that might help? It's just gotten gunked up over time or something?

If you can give me any guidance on getting debug info out of it I'll happily supply that - I'm a developer so I understand the frustration of these niche problems!
