why downloads AND uploads?

1. curious as to why my current download is getting more uploading. what is being uploaded and is it necessary?
the file is Carolyn Myss 'Energy Anatomy' coming from file.cyb....

2. also, why is it moving SO SLOWLY? the raptor flies through downloads, and deluge flies through other files, but this one.....?

any help truly appreciated!

About the uploading. It is probably because say you have 5% downloaded. You are uploading that 5% to not only one person, but anyone who needs that 5%. That's the way torrents work (I think). About the torrent being slow, that's just the way some torrents are. This could be because of people 'cheating' and not really sharing; or because others have their upload speeds set really low.

This is just how I have understood torrents to work... I could be wrong.

Could it be a file that was just released and it hasn't been completely downloaded by anyone yet? I've seen that before with a slow initial seed, literally 100 people that have pretty lose to the same % or less and one seeder. If thats the case, it would make sense to me, either wait a little while before you start downloading to allow the seed to distribute to a few people, or just tough it out and you should get it eventually.
