Error with Deluge 1.3.3 and Win7-64 'parameter is incorrect'

Bug ticket for this topic: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/ticket/1956

Hello Forums,
I've been happily using Deluge for quite some time now and seen the
Unfortunately the new Windows update broke it's funtionality, like others also reported:

Checking Torrent Stops at a Random Percentage on Windows
deluge 1.3.3 hangs after <5 minutes

So I'm having the following problems:

If a torrent has not downloaded any data yet (is at 0%), Deluge starts creating a file and tells me that it's downloading. The created file apparently never has any content and always is 0 byte in size. Running as an administrator or in compatibility mode doesn't work around this, so I don't think it's a privilege issue.
If a torrent tries checking a file, which either has a size of 0 byte or more (old downloads from v1.3.2), it randomly stops and does not want to continue with that file.
If any (attempted) download is happening, it takes a bunch of minutes and Deluge stops responding. The tray icon still has the right click functionality, but you can't close it from there.

Im using Deluge v1.3.3.
with Libtorrent v0.15.7.0
on Windows 7 x64.

The only solution to this seems to be downgrading, which I'm not very fond of. I know I'm not the only one complaining about this error, but I'd highly appreciate it, if the Deluge team would be able to keep the software as awesome as it was all the time and update the Windows software, so it works with the newest version.

Thanks for a proposed solution (other than downgrading)!

Deluge 1.3.3. generally not working properly on Windows 7

Post by neverone »

Hi!
i'd ask you all to show a bit patience and spare a bit of time reading this post, since i am not much of a programmer and am not much afamiliar with development of this application.

after a lot of torrent clients i used, i ran into deluge (don't know what version), and it was incredibly faster and more reliable than any of previously tested (before deluge, my favorite was utorrent).

however a few days ago, my computer, running on win 7 build 7600 crashed, and since there was no way to revive him, i used ubuntu live distro to backup all my documents to an external drive, format the disk and put a fresh copy of win 7 on it...

ever since then i downloaded the latest version of deluge and i've been having problems of various sorts. for the most of the time, the application didn't want to start at all, but now (somehow) i managed it to start. i wanted to continue downloading the torrents i started to download before the computer crashed, so i found the .torrent file, and added it to deluge. i have to point out that one of the torrents is arount 1,4 bg, while other is quite large, a bit more than 200gb (the complete dr. who series).

the first problem i ran into was that deluge showed the download bar with text: "checking resume data", and got stuck at 0.0%. i found out that restarting the application resolves that problem.

the second problem was that drag and drop funcion does not work anymore, but doubleclicking on the .torrent file eventually opens the add torrent option in deluge.

the third, and the biggest problem of them all.... after adding those two torrents, and waiting what it would seem hours, deluge finished checking the 200gb torrent, and successfully continued download, while the second in the list, the 1,4 gb torrent got stuck at "checking" and didn't resume download.

i left the application to download for a while when i noticed that the client didn't download at all! the app didn't show number of seeders/peers, didn't show speed nor eta, and whatever i tried to do with it, the percentage bar didn't move from the point where it originally had stopped when computer crashed.....

is there any bugfix or any way to make deluge work like it used to? i fell in love with this application, and i really don't want to go back on utorrent or any other client... i tried installing a previous version of deluge, and, more or less, i encountered same problems as mentioned above!

please help! :)

Hang while checking

Post by dalmedya »

1.3.3 on Win 7 Professional x64.
Checking a large torrent with very large (4MB) chunks.
Client consistently hangs at exactly the same percentage of checking, on the same file.
Removing the file causes the hang to occur on the file prior to that one.
No error message is shown.
Pressing pause causes progress column to display as 'paused', pressing resume causes it to go back to 'checking'.
Pressing close button has no effect; any following action causes the title bar to display (Not Responding). Program does not close, termination via take manager process tab works.
The torrent successfully completed checking earlier, and was downloading. Problem occurred after shutdown and startup of system.

This is my first time using Deluge, and I must say I'm not impressed. The lack of client address resolution, number-of-torrents-active limit and most importantly, in-client logging will likely cause me to return to uTorrent. That's to say nothing of this apparent uncaught file check exception.

really? nobody has any ideas?

EDIT: never mind. i downloaded an earlier version (deluge-1.2.3-win32-setup.exe || 27-Mar-2010), and it started working like a charm right away. moderators may as well delete this thread.

I concur - badly not working, either 1.32 or 1.33 both have huge amounts of bugs in and is generally sluggish and an overall poor experience. Using 1.2.3 is fine however!

Yes I have these exact problems too. I filed a bug report a while back: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/ticket/1920

That report is a little vague I admit, essentially just stating that nothing really works... :)

Anyway, for a next release, I hope the developers can test Deluge on Windows properly (in a live setting with many different types of torrents and trackers) and confirm that:

[*] It shuts down properly;
[*] If not shuts down properly i.e. killed it just checks the right torrents again;
[*] Any sort of rechecking results in successful and correct completion;
[*] Downloading torrents with a variety of trackers works well (I assume the developers have some sort of test environment with a collection of torrents they can test).

For now, I returned to 1.3.1, which seems to be the last one that works well. I must say however that I kept the same state folder in appdata/roaming/deluge/state, which keeps me from having to recheck all my torrents. If a developer can maybe tell us if this could potentially be the problem, that would be nice... in that case I'm happy to try to begin with a clean install, though I'd rather not if someone is sure it doesn't solve anything...

Re: Updated Deluge with new libtorrent not working

Post by Glieb »

Don't worry, I counted at least two tickets and four forum posts about 1.3.3 not working on Windows, so Cas and the other developers must be aware - besides, it seems to be a libtorrent issue. In any case, Deluge version 1.3.3 will go down in history as something to avoid. :)

Let's keep our hopes up for the new version. Meanwhile, just install 1.3.1, which works perfect here.

Same issue here, same os too, 6gb torrent hangs upon 99.87 percent checking.
Situation exactly the same, ver 1.3.3 too.
Anyone here care to take a look at the issue?

got the same problem with 1.3.2 and 1.3.3, and because it's very annoying the restart deluge everytime (this "bugfix" hasn't worked for sure) and losing all connections, i switched back to 1.3.1, that was the last working version for me on windoze.

Thanks for confirming it's not just me having problems with 1.3.3. I upgraded from 1.3.1 about an hour ago and the new version seemed fine for 5-10 minutes, but then all my DL/UL speeds dropped to 0 and stayed there. Deluge froze when I tried to quit, and I had to kill the process. Restarted it and the same thing happened again. Now I'm back on 1.3.1 and it's working fine. Oh well. =/
