Deluge WebUI/GTK - How to connect (Deluge 1.3.1)

Post by l8knight »

After a year's worth of procrastinating I upgraded my Ubuntu Server with a fresh install of 9.10 (avoided 10.10 at the moment). I had an old version of Deluge working on 8.10 but now that I have rebuilt everything this newer version of Deluge seems completely confusing or the documentation is weak.

So I followed the instructions that alot of people seem to be using: http://havetheknowhow.com/Install-the-s ... ss-RC.html but opted to go with the init-script on this page because I didn't like the port changes being made in the first tutorial (http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/User ... ipt/Ubuntu).

Again, this installation is on a headless Ubuntu server with no GUI...all terminal mode.

I can connect to the WebUI (see the screenshot) but I have no idea what to do with the connection manager.
I see the information about configuring the different parts but it seems to reference a console. Is there some configuration file that can be changed instead? How do I create the user without a console? What parameters do I put in the connection manager?

The old version I just connected from my desktop via browser to my server, put in the password and I had a nice web interface to add/remove torrents, etc. What's so different this time?

I can only guess that maybe deluge-web is running as a different user to deluged.

Have you tried simply running deluged then deluge-web from the cli?

Could you attach your init script and /etc/default/deluge-daemon?

Why did you not install 10.04 which is a LTS release?!

Here is the Deluge-Daemon:

Code: Select all

# Configuration for /etc/init.d/deluge-daemon
# The init.d script will only run if this variable non-empty.
DELUGED_USER="deluge"
# Should we run at startup?
RUN_AT_STARTUP="YES"
Here is the Init Script:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides:          deluge-daemon
# Required-Start:    $local_fs $remote_fs
# Required-Stop:     $local_fs $remote_fs
# Should-Start:      $network
# Should-Stop:       $network
# Default-Start:     2 3 4 5
# Default-Stop:      0 1 6
# Short-Description: Daemonized version of deluge and webui.
# Description: Starts the deluge daemon with the user specified in

After a quick comparison of the two scripts I couldn't go past this line

Code: Select all

UMASK=022 # Change this to 0 if running deluged as its own user
Ive used the havetheknowhow script successfully on 9.04, 9.10 and 10.04 and it makes no mention of the umask.
I would try to:
- Modify the existing script to have a umask of 0
OR
- Use the havetheknowhow script but remove the '-p 9092' option to use the default port

Im no expert, so im not entirely sure if this will help. However, its such a small change it cant really hurt to try can it?
