Ubuntu 10.04 - 1.3.1 - Unkown client

Post by Maffen »

Since 1.3.1 torrent trackers are blocking me for unknown client.

<tracker site>: Error: I'm sorry but Unknown client is not permitted to be used

I'm using 10.04 LTS with the (unofficial) deluge repository.
With 1.3.0 i didn't had this problem.

Anyone else with this problem?

This is usually because the torrent tracker has not updated their whitelist.

You can manually change the client reported to the tracker however it is not recommended and I can't remember the file you need to edit,

Spoofing will get you banned on most private trackers, so I wouldn't do that.

Instead, tell the tracker to whitelist Deluge 1.3.1.
If they've allowed 1.3.0, allowing 1.3.1 shouldn't be a problem.

Hmm, you guys can be right.

But what I find very strange is the 'Unknown' client part of the message.
Shouldnt this be Deluge 1.3.1?

Example for transmission:
I'm sorry, but Transmission 2.1.0.0 is not permitted to be used.

I imagine that's the message you get when they see an unknown client id.

Perhaps that specific version of transmission isn't allowed, hence the accurate message.
