Unable to browse SAMBA network shares?

Post by Ellipsys »

Hello everyone. I'd love to switch over to Deluge, as it seems that more and more clients are either going closed source or are being banned from private trackers, but so far there's one major issue. My storage box is an Arch Linux server, configured to serve shares to the non-Linux boxen with SAMBA. From Windows 7, I can easily browse and access my shares. Vuze and Halite seem to be able to browse to these locations as well, for setting a default download directory or for an individual torrent. Deluge seemingly cannot go high enough in the architecture to "see" the network. Is this the result of design? Thanks.

Have you considered running the deluge daemon on your server and connecting to it using the gtkui from your windows pcs?

I suppose I could do so, I've never tried it before. I guess I'm just wondering why Deluge can't seem to browse to these shares when they seem accessible by other methods.

I just wanted to report that I've tried two other methods of getting to my network. Creating a link and attempting to follow it within the deluge dialog doesn't work, nor does manually typing in \\NASNameHere\Share1 into the location bar. Attempting to do so creates a folder with my NAS's PC name. I'm swiftly running out of ideas. Is there anything else I can try? It just seems wrong that Deluge can't browse to the network level when other programs are able to do so. Hope there is a solution..

Have you tried mapping the samba share to a drive letter?

Yes! Thank you, Cas! This does indeed work. Mapping the network drive to a letter does allow it proper access! I expect this is one of those Windows-only quirks. If someone with wiki or FAQ privs sees this, perhaps it could be added to help others? Thanks again.

Good to hear that sorted it. I added an entry to the FAQ for you.
