Is the nipfilter blocklist still being updated?

Post by poo706 »

I've been using Deluge's link to download and import the nipfilter blocklist. However, I've noticed that for a significant period of time Deluge has reported that it's blocking exactly 247,222 IP ranges, even though it's redownloading and reimporting the blocklist every time I start Deluge. It does the same thing on both Windows and Ubuntu. Shouldn't this number be continually increasing? It seems as though the nipfilter via Deluge's link hasn't been updated in ages. Are there any alternate locations to have Deluge automatically download and import the nipfilter? I managed to get Deluge to cooperate with I-Blocklist and download the level1 filter, but I'm hesitant to use only level1 since the nipfilter contains more than just level1.

Yeah, for a while now the version that is pointed to by default on deluge servers hasn't been updated in a while from what I remember. I think the main reason is there is no longer a direct link to the file.

I had already found the nipfilter at blocklistpro (the link you gave me). I wasn't able to get that link to work automatically with Deluge, and I think that's the whole point (from blocklistpro's perspective). Is there a way to manually download the nipfilter and import it in Deluge. I wasn't having any luck with that either. Last ditch, I'll just stick with I-blocklist's level1 and say screw it. Thanks.

Yes, download the file from that link, store it locally, and point the blocklist plugin to the local file, the down side being it won't automatically update.

Is the method to manually import the nipfilter the same under Linux and Windows? I managed to get Ubuntu to load a locally stored nipfilter, but I'm not having luck with Windows. With Ubuntu, I have the type set to Emule list and the local location of nipfilter for URL. With the same information in Windows, it hangs at "downloading - 0%". When I change to type to peerguardian text, it downloads and loads the level1 list from I-blocklist even though I don't have that URL entered anymore. Am I missing something?

I tried to get the blocklist to import a local file on Windows for about an hour a few nights ago. I tried changing the path to have single backslashes, double backslashes, forward slashes, nothing worked, the best I could get was it to import the last successfully imported blocklist. I ended up hosting the blocklist file on the local webserver, and setting up that address in deluge.

I seem to recall it was something like file:\\...
That's an idea actually, to host it on my own website... I may just borrow that same idea. It'll give me another use for my ISP's free website.

Yeah, tried with file://c|/path/to/file as well, didn't work for me either.

The blocklist plugin in the 1.2 RCs doesn't support local files (that will probably get added in 1.2.1 or the like).

I have however looked into how blocklist pro hosts the nipfilter and it shouldn't be too difficult to write a script to sync deluge's nipfilter with it.

I'm hoping to get the script done sometime this week, so hang in there ;)
