using proxies

Will my ip be hidden, if I use a proxy for peer to peer communication?
Does this change, if I use a transparent proxy?

I'm pretty sure it would be hidden from others if it's a reputable proxy service... I don't know about a transparent proxy.

I think a lot if not all free proxy servers do not allow you to run torrent programs through their proxy. They would not be too happy about that.
