Encryption - What exactly does it encrypt?

My ISP has been really picky as of late. The torrents I download from bittorrent.com are getting my account flagged. Trailers and such. Then I have to call up, explain what it is I am doing, and then they unflag my account--which may take up to a DAY to actually process.

I am getting really sick and tired of this happening to me. They block out the entire internet, not just torrents. I have nothing. And it is very unjustified.

When I enable encryption, and set it to 'forced' in the options--what is exactly encrypted? How much of my personally identifiable information is being sent out? I realize that I will never be able to stop my IP address and things from going out, but I would at least like to be able to say to them, "Well, the information is private--that is why it is encrypted." and have SOME validity to my statements.

At this point, I am going to consider making a private network of peers using Hamachi (virtual VPN software, that encrypts everything between clients) and only share things between us users. But that will be very slow, and I would like to utilize the power of the internet as much as I can.

Thanks for any info you can give.

depends on what you select for it to encrypt. you have level options in preferences for "handshake" or "full stream"...and they do exactly what they suggest; one encrypts just the handshake while full stream encrypts everything.

maybe you could try changing your encoding to "FORCED" in and out? Then try stream encoding. That is like extreme case already. Also use the new anonymous browser to download torrents. If this works and they no longer flag your account then maybe you can try lowering to auto encoding. Slowing look for the best case for your connection. It's a real pain I know especially when you are downloading legal stuffs.

So, one would assume that by selecting 'forced' and 'full stream' they would be unable to see what data is in the packets, or that they are even BT data?

Please forgive my extreme paranoia, I am just sick and tired of calling up and having my account reset. I know it's being flagged each and every time, and I don't want to go through the hassle of finding another ISP because they term my account.

Unfortunately, the only long term solution would be to ditch your ISP and find another, bittorrent friendly one.
