Edit Trackers in Deluge 0.9.08

Hello All,

I really like some of the things that've been done to deluge in this latest update. I'm running it in ubuntu hardy heron.

One thing I REALLY don't like though, is the "edit trackers" option.
Originally (as in utorrent) one could simply copy and paste a list of trackers (from torrentz.com, for example) and viola, you'd have a ton of seeds. Now, I have to add them individually? That makes the experience enough to switch back to utorrent in wine! Joking.
But seriously, I even tried adding all the trackers into one tracker line, but I'm not sure that they work (some weird wingdings are imported where the colons are for the port numbers on each url).
And to top it off, when I have a giant amount of trackers, the deluge client gets very fat and I can't see the torrents because the list of trackers covers it up!

So... any suggestions? Am I a total idiot here?

Thanks!

Deluge only uses one tracker at a time, as long as it can connect it uses the top listed... and so on down the line. So, not really a big reason to enter a big list of trackers.

What do you mean, "the top listed?"

How do I know which to enter?

For example:

I go to torrentz.com

I enter the torrent I'm looking for.

A list of urls to torrents appears, along with a list of "utorrent compatible trackers."

If I download one of the torrents from the list above, it often only gives me one tracker, public or private.

So why shouldn't I add a big list?

In the edit tracker window there's a column that says 'tier' and it should have listed 0, 1, 2... and so on. When I say the top tracker I mean tier 0, unless it's down, in which case it goes down the list to 1, 2... and so on.

As per the official bittorrent protocol the client only connects to one tracker at a time, the list of multiple trackers are there for in case one goes down, it switches to the next in the list... and that is the only official reason to have multiple trackers listed. Not to connect to as many of them as possible all at once. Also to add extra trackers to torrents that originally didn't have them registered won't do any good, unless a very limited chance you find another peer that entered the same open tracker in their list and you are currently using that tracker.
I suggest reading up about how trackers actually work before posting further...

I understand how trackers work... i've been using torrents since the protocol was first created... my point is, regardless if there are multiple torrent trackers "tiered" up, it should still be easier to add them as often times they don't work. Also, having multiple trackers to fall back on absolutely connects you to other peers... especially when the origin tracker is something like demonoid where you need to have a flagged ip.

I hear what you're saying. I will modify the edit trackers add dialog to support multiple line entries.
