the Maths download/upload ratio Q?

alright, apparently Im more of a n00b than I thought I was with the torrent thing. I have a satellite internet connection, it only allows for 512kbps down and 120kbps up - not to mention the ISP has me on a 7.5gb DOWN and 2.5gb UP limit per month ( on a rolling 30 day period or something, its retarded, thankfully though im not paying for it, so I cant complain to much. ) .....

I have been slowly working on getting a file that is about 2.5 gb in size. I have been letting it run mostly overnight and basically its been REALLY slow, after last night I came down to check the thing and I had downloaded 704 mb total now but somehow I had uploaded 1.94 gb at the same time!! Which gave me like a 2.4 ratio , but also confused me quite a bit considering I thought I wouldnt be able to actually upload more than I download. Anyway, I went into the settings and turned alot of the bandwith settings and ratio settings down quite a bit...but could someone a bit more experienced maybe be able to tell me a good optimal setting given my bandwith limitation?

thanks

Frankly those levels are going to make it pretty hard to use bittorrent, since it is a protocol built on the idea of sharing. You can try to limit your upload speed but if you limit it too much then your download speed will suffer and it will also depend on the individual torrent... some may have lots of fast seeders and you get the file really fast, others might have very few seeders and lots of leechers usually with something just released.
If you can, try to look for the ones with lots of seeds as you'll get the best download ratio with the smallest amount of upload ratio.

On a related note, it is entirely possible to upload more than you download if there's lots of other leechers that want pieces that you have.

It is probably a very good idea to consider a better ISP if available, my experience is cable offers very similar prices to satellite.

thanks, I know it may be rough with my bandwith limitations and all, but i guess i thought perhaps there was a way to either not seed until the whole thing is downloaded - cuz if i ran a download overnight i would be seeding in the morning and i guess i didnt realize i was downloading and uploading at the same time. I thought I didnt start the seeding until the entire thing was done.

I guess ill turn down all the stuff like i did, and see how that goes, preferably though id rather not.

My options out where I live are pretty measley as far as ISPs ... the local phone co wanted something like 600.00 just to get dsl hooked up and again, im not paying for the internet ; its a gift for while im back in school ( after a 10 year break ) .... anyway, thanks for the reply does anyone else have anything to offeR?

Just to clarify, there is not a way to set deluge to not seed more than you download? Would anybody know what I should actually set my bandwith settings to in order to maybe help out with my totally stupid bandwith limitations?

well okay... my show is on...
