Right way to use the RSS plugins?

I'm totally new to RSS bittorrent downloading. I have begun using the RSS plugins a while ago and, although I already provided a source XML and got a torrent list from it, I'm unsure what the filters are supposed to do. Do they start fitting torrents automatically? If so, what's the procedure? Do they only look for torrents added AFTER you created the filter, or anything that coincides?

I'm asking because I have added a filter but nothing seems to happen.

The idea behind RSS bittorrent downloading is to automate the process of downloading torrents that come out regularly.
Each filter specifies the name of the torrent you want to download.
The filters are checked whenever the RSS feed is updated. If you've added filters after adding a feed, just update the feed and the torrents that match the filter(s) should automatically download.
