New files remain in checking state.

Post by alfema »

Why when adding new files for download they spend a long time checking and do not start immediately?

They are supposed to be empty and there is nothing to verify, nor is it creating space for downloads.

Hi alfema,

Do they eventually do start downloading? Or they keep being stuck on checking?

Hello }shinger,

I have configured Deluge to download the torrents automatically when I add them.

In fact, they get stuck verifying them, except if it's the first one I add, which does start the download, the rest stay in verification mode for a long time.

And if you add them one by one. How does it react? Would it be able to start all of them?

I always add the files one by one, but in a sequence, the first one starts downloading immediately, but the next ones stay in verification mode for a long time, I can't interact with them until the verification is finished.

Can I generate a log that can reflect this so I can see what it does?

Yes put debug mode on.

Btw, can you turn off all plugins for testing purposes to be sure of it that none of the plugins are interfering.

Hello shinger,

I uninstalled and purged the Deluge, reinstalled with the default settings except that I selected pre locate space for the files, in case this might be the problem.

I downloaded the three ISOs of Linux Mint 22.1 with no problem.

In case it was a file size problem, I looked for three large files, the first one started downloading instantly, but the next two stayed in checking mode.

I was looking at the log and I don't know if the problem could be that the communication with the tracker failed (Time Out), they couldn't download seeds or pairs staying in checking mode.

To test, I added more trackers to the second file, but it remained in check mode until a while later they both started downloading at the same time, probably when they were able to connect with the main tracker.

The log is too big to leave on Pastebin, I leave a link to the compressed log on my Drive.

Hi alfema,

- You said you downloaded 3 Linux Mint isn't and that worked fine.

So based on this we can confirm that Deluge does work.

- Then you tried larger torrent and you encountered issue regarding checking state.

How big are those larger torrents? And are you able to find some other Linux distro torrents that are also quite big? That way we can also try to confirm that really the problem does not lie with deluge.

I have had torrents that were around 200 GB but no issues. Could it be that the tracker you used was not like an official tracker? So it was not accessible enough? Can you confirm that with that tracker there were enough seeders?

Hello again shinger,

After rechecking the log to try to find out what is going on, I think the problem is that Deluge is not reporting the status of the file correctly, saying it is verifying it instead of saying it is connecting to the tracker, searching for seeders or downloading metadata of the file.

In my case for the first file the tracker (1) responded correctly, located the seeders and downloaded the metadata going to download mode.

With the second and third files, the same tracker gave a “Time out” error, indicating that it is verifying the files, when it should say that there is an error with the tracker or simply that it is trying to connect to it.

By the way, the files are not very big, about 14 GB for one for the first two and about 22 GB for the third one, but I insist, this is not the problem because it doesn't even create them.

Can you try to change the order of the torrents downloading? Or have you tried that already with the same outcome?

That way we can be sure it is not torrent file related.

Btw I could see in the logs that there were plugins detected. You can confirm that they were not enabled? Last thing, can you turn off preallocate disk space also to see if the situation changes.
