How to have Deluge listen on port 53?

Post by Dunhausen »

When I try to set Deluge to listen to port 53, I get this error

Code: Select all

Applying preferences
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'asio::system_error'
  what():  Permission denied
Aborted
and then it crashes.

I have opened the port in my firewall, but I assume it is having trouble because it is a low-numbered port.

HOWEVER, it is the only port that will get through the campus firewall/packet shaper, so it is definitely the port I would like to use.

Im pretty sure you can't use port 53 for torrenting...
Which firewall do you use? You could try disabling it.

I can use port 53 on windows with utorrent. The problem is (presumably) because linux considers ports <1024 to be privileged.

My firewall is the Fedora default (iptables).

Im not a software wizz so what I would do is try other torrent clients and see if it's a Deluge problem or something else. Of course, if it would be better to wait for someone better than me to come here :roll:
