deluge uploads 2-3 times as much as it downloads

as an example, 2 nights ago i downloaded a TV show in avi format.

the size of the file was 350mb, and i had to leave it running overnight.

when i got up the next morning to check, it had indeed finished and downloaded 350mb (give or take a few bytes), but it had uploaded around 800mb - i was only running the one torrent for the TV show. in the past, i've had download speeds of 7.0kb/s and upload speeds of 21kb/s or more - and almost 3 times as much data going out as coming in.

i'm trying to figure out how to scale that back because i'm currently in the sights of my ISP for going over my 40gb monthly limit but nobody seems to be able to help me.

i posted the question on another forum and got the reply "you need to set your uploades to X percent of your downloads" which was absolutely no help whatsoever since it didn't actually tell me what i needed to set in deluge.

if anyone can actually advise me on what to set to scale back the upload percentage then i'd be hugely grateful. i'm not asking to switch it off completely because i like to seed as and when I can, but if i can pull it back to upload just a bit more than it downloads then i'd be happy.

thanks.

if you start downloading sortly after a torrent went live, this is normal, as the number of available copies is very low. this means that you just wait around for the initial seed to spread, which is why you upload more than you download. if you had waited a couple of hours to start downloading, this wouldnt have happened. that's just the nature of bittorrent.
also if you want to stop it from seeding once its finished, set "stop seeding torrents when their share ratio reaches" and "automatically clear torrents when they reach the max ratio"

what you say makes sense, but i tried an axxo torrent last night just out of interest.

you usually find those have huge numbers of seeds and peers, and when I woke up this morning, it had downloaded 98mb and uploaded 342mb.

the ratio plugin for each torrent appears to have no effect.

if i use ktorrent though, it seems to work exactly in the way I want. I can reduce the number of upload slots and maximum upload speed per torrent and it works - i can get the upload speed to lower or equal to what i'm downloading.

so for now, i'll have to use that i guess, which is a shame because I do think deluge is faster.
