Biggest problem with Deluge

I love the Deluge client but it isn't without it's frustrations still. It's still the best option for Linux but if I was a windows user i'd probably still be using utorrent.

I don't know if it's because Deluge is coded in python or whether it just needs to be improved but it becomes really frustrating when the client hangs or goes wrong and won't restart because the python threads are still running. Invariably, killing them means the fast resume doesn't work (which is still buggy, at best) and then we go through the whole process of checking every torrent again and in some cases redownloading torrents that were removed or had their file structures altered wasting bandwidth and ratio.

I feel that the program is constantly adding new features but still ignoring problems that have been around for a very long time and that it's maybe time to really start sorting out these bugs so that the client is much more stable and less prone to crashes and not saving data.

I haven't seen a new feature in the 0.5 branch in awhile; all the recent releases have been bug and stability fixes.

The developers have realised that there are bugs that are deeply ingrained in the structure of 0.5 and hence are working on a new branch 0.6 which should hopefully fix a lot of those frustrating problems.

Yes, that is fair comment. Maybe I should have added that it seems like the inherent problem of the stuck python threads never seems to get fixed while there are always plenty of other fixes in the newer versions. Of course, I am assuming that the outcome of the problem is always triggered by the same cause but not knowing the code or how it works that's an obviously naive presumption. :D

Hopefully the 0.6 version will sort this out and push Deluge into becoming the best client for linux - which I think it is else I wouldn't use it. It's just that the competition really blows when it comes to neat, compact and just works with an intuitive GUI that doesn't have a billion and one features to set.
