Very low upload speed after upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10

Post by waltherbans »

I've just upgraded my computer from Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit) to the upcoming Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bit) and noticed a strange behaviour of Deluge (1.3.5) since that: All torrents (I'm mostly seeding) are very, very slow, although I didn't change any settings. Sometimes the speed goes up to some hundred KiB/s for some seconds (available: ~2000 KiB/s), but most of the time the torrens stay around 0.0 - 10.0 KiB/s. Other services like http downloads or ftp work as good as before. And bevor the upgrade Deluge worked like a charm.

I resetted all settings (deleted ~/.config/deluge), tried new limits and without any limits but it's still the same. Everything else is fine: It shows the correct number of seeders and leechers and has lots of connections (about 100 and about 100 DHT knots).

Any idea what's happened? Could the new version of libtorrent (Ubuntu 12.10 ships with 0.16.3.0) be the reason for this strange behaviour?

edit: Downloading torrents with Deluge works fine (=with full speed).

edit2: Logging Deluge gave nothing but a "fontconfig warning". And: I've observed the same behaviour as described above on a second computer which I had upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10, too.

edit3: I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem :( See below a screenshot to illustrate my problem.

edit4: I finally gave up: Because of this issue and some other problems caused by the upgrade I switched back to Ubuntu 12.04 - and Deluge works like a charm again :-)

Four month later, another try: Still the same issue as described above. Am I really the only one having this problem? Which settings should I check/ did I miss?

Did you test with other versions of libtorrent (Ubuntu 12.04 uses libtorrent 0.15.10) or reported it to the libtorrent developer?

I "tried to try" another version of libtorrent but failed to install the older libtorrent due to dependencies (I'm not that experienced in these things.)

Thanks for the hint on libtorrent; I'll contact them and and ask for support.

Just another update: I've upgraded Deluge (-> 1.3.6) via ppa and then upgraded Ubuntu again (->12.10) which uses libtorrent 0.16.3.0. Result: The problem described above still exists :-(

It has been reported that libtorrent 0.16 with defaults settings seems to be slower that 0.15 and using the high_performance_seed preset helps but there is no information about which specific settings are needing changed. If you create a libtorrent bug ticket hydri might offer some insight.

Thanks for the information, cas :-)

Since I'm not that good in technical aspects I just tried something else: Now I've upgraded Ubuntu once again to the upcoming 13.04 which uses libtorrent 0.16.7.0 and... Deluge works like a charm again :D
