Can't reinstall Deluge

First I tried installing Deluge through software center thinking this is best because they are all linked.

I fired up Deluge,
Enabled all plugins which told me I have to install Deluge We so I did along with deluged because I wanted to use the daemon and have it start on boot.
Unchecked classic mode and closed it.

Rebooted and the daemon never started.

I completely removed everything through synaptic

Nuked the ~/.config/deluge so no residual config files were floating around

I then added the Deluge PPA: ppa:deluge-team/ppa

Created this user: sudo adduser --system --group --home /var/lib/deluge deluge

Added myself to that user group: sudo adduser <myusername> deluge

Installed: deluged deluge-webui

Created the two upstart scripts according to: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/User ... t%20Job%29

I've noticed that ~/.config/deluge/ was never created at all.

I've tried to reinstall this three times and the same thing happens. ~/.config/deluge/ never is created.

I started from scratch and blew away Ubuntu and reinstalled Ubuntu 11.10 dektop.

Added: ppa:deluge-team/ppa

Installed: deluged deluge-webui

Followed this upstart to the letter with logging: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/User ... t%20Job%29

Everything was fine till I tried enabling SSL through the web. Once I did that I wasn't able to connect anymore.

I went into Synaptic: completely removed all deluge installs

deleted: ~/.config/deluge
deleted: the two upstart scripts

Went back to terminal: sudo apt-get install deluged deluge-webui

Went to look in ~/.config/deluge and guess what it's not there even though synaptic shows deluge* is installed.

I am ready to throw in the towel on Deluge here. I've tried to install Deluge again three times and each time it will not install properly

Why is Deluge not installing properly anymore and how do i fix this without having to blow away the OS again for the third time.

OR

If I have to blow away the OS Can someone please provide clear directions on how to install Deluge from the Ubuntu PPA:
(NOTE: No cryptic advice please... be clear with terminal commands... Not all of us are as well versed in linux as some of you.)

Both computers are Ubuntu 11.10 dektop
Machine 1: Run deluge on boot with upstart
Access the daemon through Web or GTK

Machine 2: Only access Machine 1 through GTK or Web

From Internet: Use Web to access Machine 1

Deluged is running under a different user when using upstart so the home directory is now /var/lib/deluge and the config would be in /var/lib/deluge/.config/deluge

You did not need to reinstall Deluge or the OS, you should enable logging and it will give you clues as to the issue.

Also initially after installing Deluge from synaptic there will be no config dir until after the first run of the program.

Deluge does not remove cleanly.

How do I enable logging if deluge won't start properly. Where do I find those logs because even when I use the upstart scipts with logging enabled those logs fail to be created in /var/log/deluge as per instruction here: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/User ... t%20Job%29

I used completely remove in synaptic to get rid of everything

I've check all existing files related to deluge and made sure they were gone through Nautilus (Yes they are

I then went o synaptic to check if it was enabled. Yes it was

#Started Install
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install deluged deluge-webui

#Now start stop restart deluge will not work
sudo restart deluge
sudo start deluge
sudo stop deluge

#I checked synaptic and all the files are installed

I just checked

These locations do not exist after install and upstarts

Will upstart work with the Ubuntu PPA? (because of MASK)

If it will then:

Now what do I do specifically to get this to install cleanly so I can:

Machine 1: Start deluge on boot with upstart and be able to connect to manage torrents either with GTK or WEB.

Machine 2: Connect to Machine 1 with either GTK or web and manage torrents on Machine 1

Internet: Connect to Machine 1 through web and manage torrents on Machine 1

Ok. Fresh install of OS for the fourth time

added the Deluge PPA: ppa:deluge-team/ppa

Created this user: sudo adduser --system --group --home /var/lib/deluge deluge

Added myself to that user group: sudo adduser <myusername> deluge

Installed: deluged deluge-webui

Created the two upstart scripts according to: http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/User ... t%20Job%29

Running deluge as <myusername> in this case and not deluge.

Using a unMask of 000 (just in case)

Started up deluge and set the following directories:
~/Downloads/incoming
~/Downloads/complete
~/Downloads/watch
~/Downloads/torrents
~/Downloads/ <--------This was was left as default for extractor which it clearly indicated in ~/.config/deluge/extractor.conf

watch
extractor


Downloads seem to start automatically when torrent is added to:
~/Downloads/watch

When the torrent completes extractor doesn't extract. It just creates an empty directory with the name of the torrent to be processed.

The torrent does get moved to ~/Downloads/complete.

How do I get the extractor to function properly?

Please can you keep your posts short and to the point.

Are you saying that you have deluge working with upstart now?

Did you install untar for the extractor plugin? Check the logs for any errors.

Edit: If you are using locate you need to run updatedb or it will not reflect recent changes.

I'm being specific in what I have done in order to be very clear on exactly what I have done.

This machine is a default install of Ubuntu 11.10 desktop. "Unrar" is installed and "untar" does not exist in synaptic.

When I search for "untar" in synaptic all that comes up is "rootstock" and "bootcd_backup"

These are my directories:

~/Downloads/incoming
~/Downloads/complete
~/Downloads/watch
~/Downloads/torrents
~/Downloads/ <--------This was was left as default for extractor which it clearly indicated in ~/.config/deluge/extractor.conf

Where do I find "untar", how do I install it and if that is dependancy for extractor to work why is it not mentioned in the plugins secction?

I'm afraid that is it too verbose and it doesn't actually help as I end up just ignoring it after a few lines. Alternatively format the post (tags: quote/bold/italics/code) so the steps you have taken are clearly separate from your questions.

Have you tried setting the dir to something other than Downloads and/or not moving upon completion? Did you also check the files have not been extracted into the complete folder?

Directory changes

Extractor will extract archives to :

~/Downloads/

It will not extract to:

~/Downloads/complete

Can you give me some insight on why it will not extract to ~/Downloads/complete ?

I used 755 on all directories I created in ~/Downloads:

Ubuntu's Default "Downloads" directory permissions have never been changed.

When "Move completed to" is on:
extractor creates an empty empty directory in ~/Downloads/extracted

When "Move completed to" is off:
extractor will extract to ~/Downloads/extracted

I need need to seperate incoming and completed torrents though (This way I can manually distinguish between completed and incomplete torrents)

And have completed torrents extract to "extracted"

I'm only logging into deluge through browser
