is there a possibility to add somewhere in the File menu a option like Suspend/Hibernate/Shutdown on download complete, on all downloads complete ... and variations on the same pattern?

I would like that too!! Maybe you can use the conditions set for seeding, not only downloading.

the problem with this is that on most linux distributions, shutting down a computer requires root permission and deluge nevers runs as root.

Isn't there a way to launch a shutdown event (i.e. : power button pressed) that can be processed by gdm/kdm ?

I don't need root previlegies to shutdown the computer. I just press button...

Actually I think you might be able to modify a small plugin I've made which make deluge prevent your computer from supending/hibernating. Try taking a look at:
