I know it it not the goal of deluge to be a http downloader, but the best torrent downloader. However has anyone considered creating a pluggin to add this functionality to deluge?

I use deluge in server client model at home and love it. The daemon runs on a headless linux box with a file server and the entire house has client access configured. Deluge is scheduled to only come on of a night during off peak times. This really helps stop our bandwidth from being throttled in the day by family members and also keeps us within our download limits. It is also very covenient to que and manage all downloads from one spot. For this reason it would be excellent if deluge could manage web downloads as well.

If you add HTTP, some people might not find it useful without DDL support... at that point you may as well have a DDL solution with a deluge client integrated...

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is DDL in this context?

"Direct download" e.g. file hosters which require captcha, and some other hoops for a client to jump through to download.

no need for DDL that would require all sorts of crap and most sites that require the "jumping through hoops" just would not work ever.

what the original poster (and me for that matter) would be looking for is just the ability to add large http downloads to the same queue as torrents and have it download in off peak time through scheduler. eg xbmc-10.1-live.iso @400+Mb for which there is no torrent :-(
This also allows one single program to control bandwidth for all downloads.
I used to use torrentflux and this feature was included, I do sorely miss that feature but deluge is sooo much better in other ways.
