0.5.8.5/.6 Trouble connecting to seeds but fine on 0.8.5.3

Since I upgraded to 0.5.8.5 and 0.5.8.6, I noticed that my download speeds has fallen drastically. I also noticed that I can have over 40000 seeds but I will only have less than 5 seeds connected. I end up getting an average of 5kb/s. At first I thought maybe my crap ISP has figured out how to throttle the speed for deluge since they have done it to almost all the other Bittorrent client.
I decided to downgrade to 0.5.8.3 today and actually noticed that I managed to get over 100 seeds connected and my download speed was going at 70kb/s! This is good news for me as this means it can still bypass my ISP throttle however 0.5.8.3 crashes all the time (Microsoft Visual c++ error on windows XP) so it's really annoying.
0.5.8.5 and 0.5.8.6 actually doesn't crash anymore but looks like it has trouble connecting to seeds and get really bad download speeds. :
Anyone else experiencing this similar scenario?
At the moment I will have to bear with the C++ crashes which is better than watching my download crawl at 5kb/s or lower. a 0.5.8.3 equivalent that doesn't crash would be awesome!
It's the ONLY BT client that actually gives me over 50 kb/s at the moment.
