I keep my downloads on samba server and want to connect all my torrents to deluge. Unfortunately deluge dont have native support, and has buggly .gvfs support.

Vote for it!

i see something like that. so you can add torrent located on gvfs folder. imidiatly deluge add new folder to remove folders list. at next time, when deluge starts it check all remote folders and hilight all problematic connections.

that feature with remote folder mapping works under os x (/Volumes/name) and gnome (/home/user/.gvfs) folder. Windows have native support, and has no mapping.

But that is really imporatant to have some remote folder managmet, because i can move my notebook to different location where i dont have my samber server. So, in this case i wont lose any downloads from list and want keep it in suspend state until i can restore remote folders.

Wouldn't it be simpler to run deluged on the samba server?

this is no really the same.

stand alone deluge can work everywhere where i run it. it has more mobility then service version. and i can put my notebook with delute to any other network and download/seed torrents without any restrictions.

i got one more idea, about your comment, but first more details on remote folders feature.

os x and linux mount remote foldres to special folder. when you create connection to some server it create short name folder and place in specified place. under linux this place available here: ~/.gvfs, and full path may look like "/home/axet/.gvfs/www on mini.local/[remote files]". under os x it placed under /Volumes folder and can look like "/Volumes/www/[remote files]". So, and at the least windows platform. Windows do not have any folder mapping functions (im not talking about mapping folder as drive). But deluge still can recognize torrents path like \\mini.local\folder\[remote files] and put those names under deluge "Remote folder" tree.

thats it.

one more feature i want to talk about is remote service.

deluge has nice daemon feature allow it to run on remote servers. but i think much better to have zero config services instead remote server. deluge can automatically ping network for any deluge services available (through mdns) and get all info about it. these deluge service can show some information about current network, network speed limits and connection information (like adsl up/down speed and current load). on slow networks this feature can be very useful, which allow in half-automatic way to configure client to work proper and set right limits or right daemon.

so i see deluge daemon not as service which allow to download files, but as service which route traffic for all local clients.

one more feature is related to "remote folders". some times you can move files outside torrent clients and it is really said to see deluge tring to download it again, without tyring to ask where files to move. ktorrent does it and i think is very important to have this feature in deluge client. i hope deluge will be best torrent client. with those features: move files, and one another, close to it - remote folders.

also traffic routing can make deluge number one stub for all small networks with limited channels, seems like automated proxy idea. here deluge can start once at central server and route all network clients.

ktorrent/uTorrent also have this feature, but slightly different one. they provide local nodes feature which allow to download from local network peers, much faster then from internet peers. i suggest to improve this idea and helps all network clients work together to help improve network performance.

if i miss something, or its look crazy let me know. i wish to discuss.

here one bug in deluge 1.2.0 related to this feature.

steps:
- move fully downloaded torrent to storge
- click 'quit' before moving process is over
- deluge hang for some time and then quits
- start deluge again

deluge will lose new torrent location and trying to download its again. and you have no ability to show here is downloaded torrent is and avid downloading.
