Multiple users on wireless network. Recommended settings?

Post by uncertain »

I have two Linux laptops, both running Deluge 1.1.6. Both are behind a Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato v1.24.

When either laptop is download torrents it runs as fast as our internet connection allows. When both get going, however, everything on both computers slows right down to around 10Kb/s or less.

As I said, both laptops are connected to a Linksys router with Tomato firmware. The ports being used by each are ranges several hundred apart, so nothing should be getting crossed in the mix. I have port forwarding enabled in the router, and different port ranges on both clients that are forwarded to the corresponding IP from the router - one client uses 63841-63849 and the other uses 58241-58249. Both clients have the number of connections set to -1 (Tomato supports up to 4096 and this is more than adequate). Both clients have upload bandwidth limited to around 40Kb/s, and download speed is unlimited. I'm not using QOS, so everything running runs at maximum speed.

I see settings available for port triggering, but I'm not sure if that's applicable or not. I do notice that when Deluge is running, I have incoming connection attempts on every port imaginable being blocked by my firewall. I'm not sure if I should be opening more ports from the router or not..

Can anyone tell me why having both clients running at the same time would be so detrimental to the speed of both?

Can anyone recommend settings for the clients and/or the router that would make for better performance on both machines?
