Deluge's Gray Screen of Death

There are so many features I love about deluge, so I keep waiting for one of these new versions to fix the gray screen of death.

I'm running Ubuntu Intrepid v8.10 32-bit version, with the latest Deluge v1.1.4 in daemon mode.

The daemon starts up as the root user during boot up, this is great, because no matter who is logged in, or even if nobody logs in, then my automatic RSS feeds still pick up and download torrents.

However, once I do login, and want to start the GUI user interface, Deluge is pretty worthless. More often than not I get a gray'd out screen where my user interface should be. If I wait long enough (several minutes) and check back, then sometimes the Deluge user interface is available to use, sometimes not.

During this gray screen, I can still use the computer, and the deluge daemon appears to still be downloading torrents. However, being able to use the interface for deluge, to add new torrents, or check torrent progress, is pretty much worthless.

Running deluged as root is a really bad idea from a security point of view. Let root start deluged for another (ordinary) user instead.

I doubt that it's related to your problem though.

Have you setup authentication on your daemon properly and turned off classic mode in your client? If you are trying to connect to a daemon run by a different user, then you need a proper username/password setup.
