Data loss after crashing

Hi, I'm having a bit of a nightmare at the moment, hoping someone might be able to help.
Had a powercut earlier that caused my external HDD, though not my laptop, to reboot.
Naturally all of my downloading torrents immediately flashed up errors and when the power came back and my HDD brought itself back up my Ubuntu mounted it as a second drive, still thinking the first was present, though not allowing access...
A system reboot solved that problem, and my torrents happily began checking.
Unfortunately after the check some downloads that were at 60% reverted way back to 7%
This is particularly frustrating as one of them still says its downloaded 19GiB of 28GiB, but it's now going to download it all again!
Hopefully there's some way of pointing out to deluge that the data already exists?!?! Please!!
Think tomorrow I'm gonna buy a UPS!
Any help would be much appreciated
