Deluge freezing my router/modem?

Hi all,
Since about just over a month I'm having trouble with either my wireless router (buffalo) or my ADSL modem (D-Link) 'freezing'. I'm not really sure which one it is, I suspect its my modem though. The symptoms are mainly that the ASL connection gets dropped very often, DNS doesn't seem to work, and the web-based admin GUI doesn't respond anymore.
Normally I have Deluge open and downloading all day. But yesterday I was only using a VPN client and Firefox, and I noticed that my internet connection was behaving perfectly. As a test, I started Deluge, and lo-and-behold, the bloody thing froze on me!
As another test, I stopped deluge, and opened my torrents in utorrent (with wine under Ubuntu 8.10). My connection/modem keeps working fine! No problems whatsoever (except that my torrent downloads are slower then I would expect based on previous experience).
Has anybody else seen problems with deluge 'overloading' a router/modem? Is it even possible that my issues can be attributed to a piece of software?
Rgds
