Active torrent, but no connections

Dear users,
Recently I installed Deluge (Ubuntu 7.10), but unfortunatly it is not working properly.
For example, please take a look at the torrent displayed above. The screen just remains like this. All the information on it is static; nothing seems to happen. Initially I thought it is an inactive torrent. Until I found out that BitTorent (default Ubuntu), as well as Bitcomet on my Windows machine instantly started to download at rates of about 250 kb/s.
This malfunction appears to be random. Some torrents work, some don't. Pressing pause, resume or refresh tracker have no disirble effect.
Thanks in advance for your time and effort,
Sander

what version are you using?
if you're not using 0.5.8, upgrade and see if the problem persists.

Thanks for your quick reply!

My bad, I should have given you the version number right away. My system is running 0.5.4.1, which is supported by Ubuntu at the moment. Is it wise to wait for the supported update or might that take a very long time? Do you have any ideas? As this problem is not that urgent and I like to keep things synchronised with Ubuntu.

I think you could be waiting a very long time for official ubuntu support of 0.5.8, if I was you I would just go and grab the .deb from the download section.
from the screenshot it seems that your network health is ok so I'm not sure what could be the problem but then again a lot of bug fixes have occurred since 0.5.4.1 & 0.5.8
if the problem still occurs with the latest version then you can always revert back to the old (supported) version.

Yet, I have two more questions.
Right now I have version 0.5.8. To my surprise, Ubuntu seems to be aware of the fact that I have Deluge installed, because I see it marked in the software menu. Does this mean that Ubuntu will notify me when the successor of 0.5.8 becomes supported by Ubuntu? If yes, that would be great. Until now, I had the feeling that updating to a higher version than supported, would banish this software from the software menu and update notifier. Hence I was a bit reserved with updating.
Is it correct that .config holds all the personal data for Deluge? I'm quite confused about the chosen name.

Deluge itself will notify you when a new version is available. As a general rule, the official Ubuntu supported version will always be a bit behind the debs available on the Deluge website.

No, all the deluge configuration data is in ~/.config/deluge/

you are correct however you can add deluge's repository to your software sources and then ubuntu's update manager will notify you of updates
Code: Select all
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/deluge-team/ubuntu gutsy main universe

.config holds preferences for various applications.
like pete_h said deluge's preferences are found under .config/deluge/
