I just rebooted my system, opened up Deluge, and found that all of my downloading torrents were gone. Everything that was seeding is still there, plus a ton of torrents that I had previously removed from my list. But everything that was in progress of downloading had vanished. I couldn't find any trace of the .torrent files either.
There was, however, one torrent that was downloading when I opened Deluge, and it was a torrent which was previously complete and seeding! Somehow now it only has about 50% progress.
For the other torrents, I had to go on the Web and hunt down the original torrent files and re-add them. Once I did, and Deluge did the re-check, I found that I had at least a few days' worth of data gone on each torrent. One of the torrents (a batch of files) previously had one file at 99% and the rest at about 60%, and now all of the files are at about 25%. A separate single-file torrent went from about 90% to 2%.
And just as I was typing this in my Firefox window, Deluge silently crashed.
With these kinds of major data loss bugs, plus the file progress bugs and UI regressions, I think it's ludicrous that these versions are promoted on the front page as "release candidates", or even anything close to beta. I'm "downgrading" to the 0.5 series so that I can have a usable bittorrent client again.
I can confirm what he said. I use Ubuntu Hardy and have experienced these data drops. I've gone back to using 0.5.9.3 now since that was the last non destructive client working for me. So I feel a bit related to his frustration due to losing huge amounts of data in one sudden go.
Wish I could provide a log for you but since I only have one PC and a full queue I'm not setting my foot into the lions den again until I hear that something has settled
P.S I do like the look of the new client so good luck fending off the lions
Here's my (possibly incorrect) understanding of the issue: For whatever reason, Deluge seems to have trouble completing the pieces it downloads. It's quite common for Deluge to consider around 60% of the downloaded pieces "incomplete". Most of that data is there on your hard drive, but Deluge doesn't consider it done. It uses the fastresume files to keep track of "how done" it is so that it can continue trying to finish those pieces later on. However, up until RC 5, that fastresume data was only saved during special events, such as when you pause a torrent. If you ever do a re-check or Deluge quits uncleanly without a recent save of the fastresume data, Deluge just throws away all of those incomplete pieces.
Someone please correct me if I misunderstood this. It sounds like the changes in RC 5 will at least help mitigate this issue, but it doesn't sound like the underlying problem is fixed.
I cannot get this RC to start, whatever I do. The program execution script starts but no application GUI or icon actually appears so thinking this was a similar thing to what sometime happens with PeerGaurdian on Vista x64. I checked in Task Manager for deluge processes to terminate, but there were none, no matter how many times I executed deluge.
So thinking it might be a problem with the installation, I uninstalled it and completely removed any traces of deluge and python from the registry and relevant folders before reinstalling it , several times, to no avail.
However the previous RC installs and works with no problems at all
having missed the previous rc due to stress overload i tried rc5 today on hardy 64bit.
in short it seems rather good. i got the impression it doesent connect to as many seeders/peers as the old one and downloads might be slower, also fewer dht connections but im pretty happy with it. miss the event log so i can see if the blocklist is working
looking over the forum... I can't believe the audacity of some people. They use a version that isn't an official release(RC) and then bitch when things don't go in their favor. Don't listen to these morons. I know you guys are working hard to make a great client even better.

Please, keep up the great work.
The point of these RCs is to get testers to bitch before the final release...
and then installed another version, firstly I tried to install 0.9.0.5 and then go back to 0.9.0.4, but both versions don't work! And what can I do to start Deluge now?

Windows Vista again, it does in fact not run/start. If I try to run some of the cmd scripts I get a window that says error 267, The directory is invalid.
I noticed this version moves the install directory into the 'program files' folder where the older deluge used to install. I saw the message above and couldn't help but wonder if it is assuming the install directory is literally 'c:\program files', when in fact it installed to 'c:\program files (x86)' for obvious reasons... it being a 32 bit program and windows in their infinite wisdom has decided to separate the locations of where the 32 bit programs are installed from the 64 bit programs.
So... SP5 no go for windows 64 bit, or all windows? Maybe it's time we got a 64 bit version for windows...?
